Using Dreamweaver 8 as the default HTML Editor in RoboHelp X5

I attended a WritersUA conference in April 2006--one of the presenters suggested switching the HTML editor from RH to Dreamweaver. Has anyone done this? What has been your experience? RH includes lots of unnecessary code... does Dreamweaver clean up the code significantly to justify making this change?

I'm looking for instructions to do make this change... I know how to make Dreamweaver the default HTML editor in RH but I'm sure there's more to it than just changing the editor. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

DW will not clean up the code when you open a RH topic. You have to do that manually. I don't believe there are any clean up tools. DW does have some clean up routines but not that will touch RH's code.

You will also need to find alternatives to some of RH's features such as drop down text. There are ways of doing that and I use them on my site but they are not as quick and easy as the RH method. If you open the topic in RH just to put them in, all your clean up effort will be wasted.

I think a lot of us are hoping for big improvements in the editor in the next version of RH and I would like to think that includes a clean up routine for old topics.

If the existing code ain't broke, why fix it?
