Wrong font in One Source

I used OneSource to create printed documentation. Although nearly all the font in a section is ARIEL, when converted, a few words showed up in what appears to be SYMBOL or some other font. I cannot find a reason for this, as the fault is listed as ARIEL in the original RoboHelp document. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum jwaygood.

Thanks for adding your findings. Does your last sentence mean that if you select not to install 934181, all the other will auto-install or that if you select not to install 923094 and 917334, then 929057 will auto-install?

I'll update the Snippet on my site once that is clarified.

Is it the case that with the Adobe patch and without those Microsoft patches, it generates OK.?

Peter has the solution posted to his website under Snippet 51.  Adobe released a patch that solves this problem.

I have been running back over this to try to resolve this issue on my PC and have found that all the following Word updates can cause this to occur (even if you have applied the patch from Adobe)

KB934181
KB929057
KB923094
KB917334

If you select not to install KB934181, you will find that KB929057 will automatically install. This also occurs for the remainder on the list.

Have you tried, using a copy project, the old dodge of deleting the RTF file and then opening the project so that RH offers to create a new RTF from the doc file?

AN APPEAL: Would some of you who are having problems with Related Topics not working email me via my site. Please set out the problems you are having in a concise manner and please do not cross reference this topic. It would really help if you could set up a test project with this problem and zip it to me. The zipped project should be less than 5mb. If it is more advise me of the size before sending it.

Hi Peter
Adobe have now released RoboHelp 6. Do you know if the "wrong font" problem with WinHelp projects has been fixed for good in this new version?

Hi Jaminez

So for you creating winhelp works but creating printed output is a nightmare. I am not surprised as the version of RH was designed to work with a very different version of Word using different macros.

That 9.1 works is more staggering.

I think they have just given priority to the issue which could not be fixed by users. Hopefully, this fix will follow.

Welcome to the forum.

That'll be because it wasn't designed to. The patch was to fix the Wrong Font issue.

The other problem is easily fixed. See Snippet 56 on my site.

I had seen the solution of adding a manual page break before the first topic in the document (snippet 56). However, my help project is very large and contains 250 documents, so I was hoping to find a more user friendly solution.
If there is no choice I'll add the manual page breaks to the 250 documents, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect Adobe or Microsoft to solve the underlying problem.

Karenlu

That's quite amazing and amusing. There have been plenty of reports of issues with X5 not working with Word 2003 until the patch is applied yet X4, which doesn't give you the option of selecting Word 2003 and does whinge it cannot find Word, then works quite happily with it! Whacky.

Hi all

Karenlu, is it remotely possible that you have Word 2003 installed in parallel with an earlier version? I ask because I seem to recall that when Word 2003 made its debut, many folks wrung their hands nervously because RoboHelp seemingly refused to work with it. Then some bright soul discovered that it could be coaxed to work by RoboHelp pointing at the earlier version. Somehow, when RoboHelp interacted with what it thought was the earlier version, 2003 would open and behave.

Then again, if I'm remembering correctly, this was with RoboHelp HTML. I have no clue as to whether you would see similar behavior with RoboHelp for Word. Maybe it does work just dandy that way.

I could easily see where as long as Word was able to open, it may function. Particularly as long as no changes occurred with the macro programming language used. I recall from my early RoboHistory that the macro programming language is where things get persnickety in a hurry.

Cheers... Rick

Rick, I only have Word 2003 installed. I don't know what is different about my setup that makes X4.1and Word 2003 compatible, especially since yesterday I successfully installed the software. I do find all this quite odd.

So you are using Word with RH to create online help but not generating a printed output? You don't want to risk anything on your PC but if you still have RH on another PC you might like to generate a printed output or, more likely, try to. I think it would fall over at that point.

Interesting though that it works at all.

Not quite. Referencing my last post, I only installed RH on coworkers machines today as a test since I didn't remember having any issues with my own installation. I do all my help on my own machine. My primary layout is WinHelp 2000 but I have also created Printed Documentation.

I hate to ask this but you are 100% sure it is Word 2003, not 2002?

Quite literally no one has made it work so I am genuinely interested to know how you managed it. When you install RoboHelp, it offers the various versions of Word and Word 2003 will not be listed for X4. If you select a different version, it always causes problems and usually you cannot generate anything. Do tell us more.

However, this does mean that Adobe will not issue a patch as X4 is not officially compatible.

It's definitely Word 2003.

I don't remember the install or having any issues during it, so two of my coworkers were kind enough to allow me to install RH on their PCs (they both have 2003 also). On the Select Version window the choices were RH for WordXP, 2000 and 97. On one I selected XP and on the other I selected 2000. I received the 'Word Version Not Installed' message for both which stated: "The version of Word required to run the selected RoboHelp Office X4.1 is not yet installed. Do you want to continue with the RoboHelp Office X4.1 setup?" Replied yes, and completed the installations. Opened RH, created and generated help projects with no problem. And my help project works just fine. Very curious - had no idea you weren't supposed to be able to do this!

Congratulations on being the first person to get it working, particularly as even X5 does not work with Word 2003 without a patch being applied. You are saying that from X4 you can create a printed document using Word 2003?

Yes. Quite frankly this Times New Roman business is the reason I first checked out the forum since I couldn't troubleshoot the problem myself.
