PP TEAMS 15.4 is Crashing my MacPro

I upgraded to 15.4 for the capitioning function of documentary interviews, which works fine.   However, when scrubbing through multi-cam sequences with proxies,  the mac crashes.  Screens go blank,  lose  mouse/keyboard, Mac blowers spin up, but audio contimues to play.   Requires a forced reboot.  This happens frequently.   This did not occur with version 15.0, or previous versions of TEAMS.

Another thing...the app fails to play some linked audio clips.  The play head runs over an edit, plays video but not audio.  One must place the playhead at the top of the edit to play audio.  This bug occurs with remote TEAMS editors on different machines (Windows)  with same project.  Very random on which clips play or don't play.  Again, this appears to be a 15.4 bug.

Luke,

I think your machine is trying to tell you something. At a certain point, your NLE hardware won't be able to handle new versions of NLE software.

You're facing a time when you need to make a decision on your hardware. Stay with v.15 and lock that system down, or get new hardware.

From one editor to another, those new M1 Macs are powerful and affordable. My advice is that you badly need to update your hardware. Is that a possibility?

Thanks,
Kevin

Yep.  Orderd my new 27" iMac (i7) from B&H today.   I won't fully retire the MacPro 5.1. from the studio.    It has all the OWC upgrades to max it out so it really rips through transcoding, and FCP projects.   Upgrades got me through many big films this year.    But, this is sad news for us MacPro Tower "dead-enders"  🙂

Luke,

It was a good run, my friend. Lock down the system to the most stable versions and continue to use it for less demanding projects. Why not? At least it's not a G4 Toaster. Those things were only around a couple of years. I'd say you got your money's worth. These little M1s do scream and I'm very happy my boss got me one for work. Have fun with the iMac.

I spent the weekend doing a clean install of OS 10.14.06 on a new EVO 860 SSD and installing CC and Premiere Pro 15.4.  This was in insure no plug-ins or other added apps were the issue.   But, the problem persists:  While playing 4K multi-cam clips the system crashes after several minutes.  I duplicated the Teams project - same issue.  Saved it as a PremirePro project - same result.  While PremierePro shows no system compatibility issues, I can only assume it's a bug in 15.4, or my fully upgraded MacPro 5.1 is at the end of it's rope in operating this software.

Sorry you've run into troubles.

Confirming (from your report): The same crash-on-scrubbing-multicam-sequences-with-proxies persists, if you switch to using a local project (.prproj), instead of a Team Project?

PPro 15.4 requires OS X version 10.15 or later: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html

Given some upload space, could you provide a sequence with source footage, for the multi-cams (and associated proxies)? Given those, and step-by-step instructions on how one can reliably reproduce the crash, we'd be happy to investigate further .

The "not playing audio" behavior is bizarre; any chance you have stale media cache files, from across different PPro versions, on that system?
