This File Type is Not Supported in Team Projects (AEP)

Hello all, just adopted Team projects for Premiere as our collaborative workflow at work, and I'm trying something I've done a thousand times in a traditional project but which isn't working in team projects.

It's a critical part of my workflow to be able to import Adobe AfterEffects compositions directly into Premiere and use them in sequences, but when I try to import an AE project, I get a message that says "this file type is not supported in team projects." Is it really true that you can't use AE comps in team projects? If so, then that completely ruins my ability to use team projects in my workflow.

Hi Nathan,

With the way you tried, yes, it's true that you can't import a .aep into Premiere, but the way to do it is actually even cooler.

A Team Project is not a Premiere Team Project or an After Effects Team Project (or heck, even Prelude supports them), there's just ONE Team Project.

Open up Ae, and just like in Premiere you'll click "Open Team Project." It will load the same project you were working on in Premiere. Now you can import your .aep into After Effects and it will immediately show up when you have the project open in Premiere. You can have the same Team Project open in both apps at the same time. You don't have to push your changes to the cloud for them to show up in Premiere since the local database will sync up, which just takes a few seconds.

The downside here is that you need to organize in a new way for Team Projects. My Team Project folder looks something like this:

-After Effects Comps

-Premiere Sequences

Audio

Motion

Graphics

Other

Photos

Still Graphics for Premiere

Still Graphics for After Effects

Video

Normally both my .aep and .prproj would have the same folder structure, minus the dedicated folder for the other program.

Note, there are certain files you won't be able to use from one program to the other, and that's just something you have to deal with. For example, Ae Nulls and Solids in Premiere are there but unusable, and Premiere Black Video, Color Bars, etc. show up in Ae but are unusable.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Please help! Unable to use Team Projects if I can't work with linked AE comps.

Wow! Thank you for that explanation. That seriously helps. I was not aware of the single team project concept. That makes so much sense. I appreciate the help!
