Question

Acrobat 2024 Classic crashes on copy (cmd+C / right-click → Copy) on macOS 27.0.1

Acrobat Pro 2024 Classic (24.001.30429, native ARM64) crashes every time I copy text from a document, both via cmd+C and via the context menu. Reinstalling Acrobat and macOS did not help.

System: MacBook Pro M3 Pro (Mac15,6), macOS 27.0.1 (26A434)

Crash report excerpt:
Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
Application Specific Information: CFStringCreateWithCString can only be called with an c-string compatible encoding
Thread 0: __CFStringCreateImmutableFunnel3 ← Acrobat.framework ← NSMenuItem action (Copy)

It looks like Acrobat's copy code passes a non-C-string encoding to CFStringCreateWithCString, which macOS 27 now rejects with a hard trap. Is a compatibility update for the 2024 Classic track planned? Full crash report available on request.

Same problem - copying keeps crashing Adobe Acrobat 2024 v 24.001.30429 on my Mac desktop. I just purchased TODAY a 3-yr subscription for this 2024 software and can’t use properly. IS THERE A FIX? WHEN? Please help!

What is the fix - copying keeps crashing Adobe Acrobat 2024 v 24.001.30429 on my MacBook Pro M5 Pro OS 27.0.1 whether I am in Rosetta mode or not.  I just purchased a 3-yr subscription for this 2024 software, but never would have done so with this fatal flaw.  PLEASE ADVISE.

This keeps happening on my MacBook Pro M5 Pro as well, and yes I have the latest Adobe Acrobat 2024 version 2024.001.30429.  What is the fix?  I just purchased a 3-year subscription, but never would have done so with this type of a fatal flaw.  FYI - opening in Rosetta mode does nothing - any copying causes the software to crash.

The crash report is interesting because it points directly to Acrobat.framework during the Copy action, with CFStringCreateWithCString throwing an EXC_BREAKPOINT. Since it happens with both Cmd+C and right-click > Copy, and reinstalling did not change anything, this looks more like a compatibility issue between Acrobat 2024 Classic and macOS 27 than a problem with the PDF itself.

I’d first make sure 24.001.30429 is the latest Classic 2024 update available, since Adobe lists that as the current Classic 2024 release. I’d also test copying from a very simple PDF or a newly created blank PDF to confirm it happens regardless of the document.

One other thing worth noting is that Adobe’s published Acrobat 2024 system requirements currently list macOS through Sequoia, not macOS 27. If the crash reproduces even with a simple PDF, I’d include the full crash report when reporting it to Adobe, especially the CFStringCreateWithCString line. That should give them a useful lead for a compatibility fix.

@thuppertz Curious, did Acrobat Pro 2024 Classic worked previously? If so, did you recently upgrade or change something on your device?

You could try in Rosetta Mode? Go to Applications, and locate Adobe Acrobat. Right-click the Acrobat app icon and select Get Info (Command I). Check the box Open using Rosetta. Launch Acrobat and test copying text again.

Add a check-mark (mine is off as I have no issues)

I think it appears with macOS 27. The Rosetta mode didn't change the behaviour.
