Question

Acrobat Fill & Sign Read Only option not working

I have a user who attempts to use Fill & Sign and then selects the option to then convert the document to Read Only. After selecting that option, a progress bar on the bottom right shows up. However, the progress bar fills up to only half way and the task is never fulfilled. Even if we leave the task alone well over 15 minutes, it still sits at the half way point. We're able to cancel out of the task but no Read Only document is ever created.

We've attempted to sign out and sign back into said user's account, repair installation, and uninstall/reinstall Acrobat. Acrobat is also up to date.

The user was able to perform this function before our organization switched Adobe accounts.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Jacob Keyes

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive please download it to your computer locally and then try again.

What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.3.20310 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

As a workaround you may also try to secure the PDF and make them read only by using digital signatures/certificates, to know more please check the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/securing-pdfs-certificates.html

Thank you for your response.

It's happening with all PDF files, ones that are stored locally on their workstation and on a shared drive.

The Adobe Acrobat version they are currently running is 22.003.20310.

I attempted to repair the Acrobat installation through Acrobat itself and through Windows as well.

I'll give the Acrobat preferences and test user profile a shot and see where that takes me.
