Acrobat Pro 2023 not optimizing files

Hello;

I have a 21.4 MB Adobe Acrobat [2023.008.20470] PDF created from Illustrator that has images in reduced scales. After saving it as an optimized file at 150 ppi for the images it was still the same size.

Opening the same file in an older version Adobe Acrobat [10.1.16] on an older Mac, it saved to an optimized size of 626 KB.

So what am I missing here?

Chris

Illustrator creates vector graphics. Vector graphics can not be reduced in size. So optimize should have no effect, if the graphic is indeed vector based.  Without seeing your file, I can only guess. My first guess would be that you have the Illustrator data embedded in the file, and optimizing it with the older Acrobat simply removed that data.

Best would be to open the file in Illustrator and exporting to a PDF file, without embedding the Illustrator data.

Hi @Chris26953238qfn0

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

Please update the application to the recent version 23.08.20533 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once and check.

You may also try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082  and see if that works.

Also, go into Advanced>Print Production>Flattener Previewand then apply the flattening first (you can compress the images right in there as well).

Once you do that youcan "Reduce File Size"

Hi there

What happens whrn you try to optimize the PDF file, do you get any error message? A small video recording of the steps you are doing and the issue occuring would be very helpful.
