Question

Acrobat Pro DC - Sluggish performance, constant beachball... HUGELY frustrating.

As of the last 2-3 weeks the performance of Acrobat has been incredibly slow and at times simply unworkable.

I am finding the regardless of document complexity or size, there is a frequent crashing/beachball lock ups which is causing major productivity for my team. Our typical MBP specs are very high and so this is not the issue.  I am running the latest version of Acrobat on macSO Big Sur.

My MBP spec is below:
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I have reinstalled the package a number of times and removed preferences several times also.

A loading bar flickers up at the bottom right of the screen during most crashes, but is too quick to see what it is trying to load.

Advice please, this package feels incredibly clunky lately.

Hi Jack

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing.

As described, the performance of Adobe Acrobat DC is very slow past few weeks as there is a frequent crashing/beachball lock ups which is causing major productivity.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version of the application go to help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.05.20048 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

You may also try to reset the Acrobat preferences to default as described in the help page - https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

if it still doesn't work, please try to create a new test  user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check.

Yo may also checkout the steps suggested in the help page - https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html

I am having the same problems as described by jackfishaentys. I have tried the same proposed solutions as he did, as well as those you suggest and through the help link you provided, with no improvement. My Acrobat DC version is 2021.007.20091.

I have 2 Macs, a 2013 iMac with 32 gb of ram and a 2020 MacBook Pro. They both have the same preferences and same version of Acrobat. The very sluggish operation occurs only on the MacBook Pro. I can open the same file (a very complex form) on my iMac and it works perfectly well: it only malfunctions on the MacBook Pro. However, nothing  but Acrobat DC operates sluggishly on my MacBook Pro.

Solutions most welcome.

When I said "they both have the same preferences and same version of Acrobat" I meant the same Acrobat preferences.
