I have tried to look at a PDF 3 times, and when I open it, my entire computer goes black, brings me back to the login screen and everything I had open previously looks like it has reset. I am losing my mind.

Hi @Todd_Morgan ,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble opening PDF files. I'm happy to help you troubleshoot this issue.

  • Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all PDFs? If it's just one file, try opening a different one to see if that works.
  • If the PDF is stored on a shared network/drive, please try to save it locally on your computer and check. Sometimes, network permissions can prevent files from opening properly.
  • Have you started experiencing this issue recently? If so, what changes have you made to your computer or to Adobe Acrobat? This information could help me narrow down the cause of the problem.
  • What is the version of Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version, go to Help > About Acrobat. Make sure you have the latest version (23.03.20284) installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once. This will install any available updates for Adobe Acrobat.
  • Try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works. This will fix any corrupted or missing files in the Adobe Acrobat installation.
  • Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to defaul... - Adobe Support Community - 4792082 This will restore the default settings for Adobe Acrobat, which may fix the problem.
  • You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check. This will help us rule out any user-specific issues.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or if you've tried any of these suggestions and they haven't worked. I'm happy to help you further.

Thanks,

Amal
