For those using the Retail product, and not the trial product, the following steps seem to have worked for several customers already.

    1. Backup the following file, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet\adobe_00080000_tsf.data.
    2. Delete the file from the location above, but not the back up.
    3. Reboot the cpu
    4. Launch Acrobat and see if it requires you to activate again.
    5. If it does, activate Acrobat again.

This has worked for 2 of the customers that contacted me off-line. It failed to work for customers who are using the Trial. I believe because the 30 day window has expired.

Contact me at jemoran@adobe.com if this does not work. If you do contact me I need to know more information. Confirm that you are using a Retail version of Acrobat and send me the adobe_00080000_tsf.data file mentioned above.

    Cheers
    Jeff

p.s. the only other thing that has worked for one customer was a full re-format of his hard drive (which was done because of HD failure, not Acrobat BTW).

If you have Zonelabs Zone Alarm firewall, you need to allow activation licensing service(FNP Licensing Service.exe) to interact w/ acrobat 8.0, and that will correct the 10 seconds shutdown of Acrobat 8.0.

I was also having problems with the 10 second shut-down issue. I found this earlier email on this thread, tried it and it worked. I, too, recall a problem when I tried to activate the program originally, which is probably what is causing the 10 second shut-down. Anyway, try this solution, it worked for me (Thanks, John Bowler, you da man!!!):

    "John Bowler - 1:38pm Jan 29, 07 PST (#112 of 168)

For what its worth, I had this problem suddenly appear after
uninstalling and reinstalling because of my other issue (Acrobat
    window opens uninvited).

The only oddity during reinstallation was that while the initial two
serials were required during installation, the program skipped
validation and then just shut down just after starting - I couldnt get
to the validation menu in time to see if it was even available except
once when it appeared (fleetingly) to be dimmed and unavailable.

Having seen this thread I took the nuclear option -

    1. uninstalled Acrobat
    2. deleted all temporary files
    3. deleted Documents and Settings for me and all users all subfolders
pertaining to Adobe under Application Data and Local Settings
    4. deleted all adobe directories under C:\Program Files\Common Files
    5. did a registry serarch using "Registrar Lite" for all keys
containing Adobe and deleted all 10,000,000 or so of them

Reinstalled Acrobat et voila - success. The two serials as usual and
then activation after installation which proceeded correctly. Acrobat
no longer shuts down just after opening.

I dont know if 1-5 are all needed but if anyones desperate it worked
    for me!!"

Hello. The same problems are for me. I'm using XP SP2 with a no-brand machine. All works fine with A8 until the day that this program stop to work. I'have used A8 in trial but some days after the problem begin : A8 start but after some seconds (10 to 20) they will close. No solutions proposed here have resolved this issue. I'm really sure that the problem is NOT on hdd files but in some registry keys regardind the software activation. I think this beacouse i have DELETE ALL Acrobat related files on my HDD with automated and manual search, but reinstalling the software don't resolve this issue. IMHO problems comes from some registry key that the unistall process DO NOT DELETE. I wish to ask to mr. JEFF MORAN to give me/us some batch file that CLEAN ALL ADOBE REGISTRY KEYS. I think this resolve (after reinstallations) this issue.

    Why do you think this?

    Why do you think this?

I've had the same problem with Acro.8 recently. Over a month ago I've had the trail version on, so after 30 days Acrobat stopped running. After that I put in the full version, but Acrobat closed itself right after it's launched (more like 1-2 sec. than 10-12 sec. other people experienced). I don't know if the ending of the trial version before I activated the full version created any clause that led to Acrobat shuts itself down on any subsequent launch. (It worked fine with the trial version)

So to try to fix that I restored my computer to the point before I installed the trial version, then put the full version in. Now my Acrobat stays for a few more sec. before it shuts down. So that doesn't work. My account (XP) has full admin. privilege. And messing with the startup tray doesn't change anything either.

I'm not sure if I uninstalled Acro.7 prior to putting in Acro.8 or just let the Acro.8 take care of that. Now I think it's the wrong move to try Acro.8. And what is it with this leftover folders and contents even after I uninstall Adobe package (so I can do over) that resists deleting (access denied) for some unknown reason. It's vey annoying.

I have the same problem. Acrobat has worked fine for months and then it just started shutting down with no warning or explanation. Frustrating.

I am having the same problem after I install Pro 8.0. It opens and in a few seconds appears and then disappears I am running Vista.

Trevor, you need to first enable acrotray.exe in msconfig. Then go to the directory in which you saved the acrobat program. Look for a file called acrotray.exe. You need to run that file as administrator. When I ran it as administrator, my acrobat stopped closing. I'm not sure if that will also work for you. I'm using vista so there might be some subtle differences. In vista, you can just right click and run as admin. I don't recall what you have to do for the other versions of windows.

    Sorry.
