I've just installed Actobat 8.0 Pro on my laptop and desktop. It works fine on my laptop but once I open it, it closes automatically in about 10 secondes. Tried uninstalling it and installing in again but nothing's soveled that problem. Please help me with this issue.

My desktop has:
Intel Pentium D 820
1G Memory
Nvidia quadro FX 540

I got the similar problem. But Whenever I selected "Edit >-Perference " before it closed by itself, the acrobat 8.0 will stay and won't close until I de-select Edit->Perference. I don't know why so.

Law, what do you mean you "had to run acrotray.exe as administrator?" I disabled acrotray.exe as well through msconfig. Could you help me solve this problem where acrobat 8.0 auto closes in 10 seconds? Thanks.

My acrobat 8.0 started closing automatically after I disabled acrotray.exe in the msconfig startup options. Realizing this, I enabled it, but that didn't quite fix the problem. I had to run acrotray.exe as administrator. After doing that just once, things went back to normal. This might not be the main reason why acrobat 8.0 keeps crashing. Nevertheless, it worked for me so it might work for a few others.

    Best.

While we are waiting for a fix/resolution, here is a free program to read and print PDFs: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Its a 1.6Mb download. I've just installed it. It works well!

I have a non-Dell desktop computer running XP Pro, and I have the problem. It even affects my viewing of web PDf using the plug-in. They go blans after about 10 seconds.

This problem started just a few days ago. Before that everything was fine.

Here's a thought: Since Adobe cannot replicate the problem of Acrobat closing automatically after 10-20 seconds, maybe someone with the resources to do so could send the powers-that-be at Adobe their laptop or hard drive with the malfunctioning version of Acrobat. I'm sure Adobe would welcome this as a great opportunity to trouble shoot a very annoying issue. Or, maybe we can all just sit around and complain that nothing is being done to resolve the dilemma.

I'm getting no responses from anyone who would like to work with Adobe directly on this. I believe I've posted that 3 times now. I will try another tactic, my email is posted below. If you would like to work with Adobe directly please send me an email with "A8 Closes After 10 Seconds" in the subject line. When you email please provide the following information:<br /><br />1. How long was Acrobat 8 working before the crashes occured. <br />2. Did you successfully install with a serial number and Activate the software prior to the crash? If you were using Trial software please be forthcoming about that so I know you don't have a valid serial number to work with. <br />3. If you hold down shift and double click the Acrobat icon to launch Acrobat does it still crash? This will help rule out any issues with Plugins like Updater. <br />4. Did you have A7 on the system prior and is it uninstalled? If so how? Was A7 part of CS2? <br />5. Have you installed any other Adobe beta software? Long shot question but could cause issues with different file versions. <br /><br />I know that is a lot of information. We are very appreciative to anyone who can positively help us on this issue. <br /><br />At this time we are pretty sure the core issue is with Activation, not an Updater plugin conflict. This is an Acrobat 8 issue. Acrobat 7 had a similar issue that was attributed to the corrupted Organizer database. If you have had A7 on the system before then you should try deleting both the A7 and A8 Organizer database (instructions already posted on this thread). <br /><br />Lastly, I'm sure no one on this thread would, but pretty please don't abuse my email address. <grin><br /><br />Thanks<br />Jeff
