I've just installed Actobat 8.0 Pro on my laptop and desktop. It works fine on my laptop but once I open it, it closes automatically in about 10 secondes. Tried uninstalling it and installing in again but nothing's soveled that problem. Please help me with this issue.

My desktop has:
Intel Pentium D 820
1G Memory
Nvidia quadro FX 540

Wow, I'm getting ready to upgrade about 100 machines. I think I'll wait. Please keep me posted if this issue is resolved. Thanks

No resolution as of yet. Adobe is no longer really communicating regarding the issue. We have the issue NO MATTER HOW IT IS INSTALLED. BEWARE! Danger Will Robinson.

Yikes, I just read this post as I'm ready to purchase close to 100 Professional upgrades. Has this issue been resolved? Is there an issue if you upgrade it using a CD as well?

Does this auto-closing thing have a solution yet? I've read this whole thread and haven't encountered a stable workaround for me, a 60-second victim.

Adobe 7.0.9 Standard (just updated today, but problem noticed in late December)
    WinXP Pro
Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop, 2x core processor, tons o' memory and speed.

I believe that the thought that this was related to the activation has been posted here previously. Of interest, assuming that it is related to 'phoning home', is why is apparently cannot. We seem to be consistently seeing this on machines with free unopposed access to the internet connection.

Further, the presumed apparent response to its inability to phone home is also concerning. In combat against piracy I fully support some sort of activation. If the software will continuously check this, it presents a huge problem for most people, as it will all but eliminate the possibility of installing it on mobile machines since they may not have immediate access to the internet. We frequently have laptops in just this situation. It seems unlikely that Adobe would take such an aggressive position that it would secure itself right out of usability, however we have seen sillier things.

The fact that machines with this full access seem to have the issue lead us to point out that something in the Adobe files (likely the activation, but who knows) is not getting the appropriate message. Until Adobe steps up and starts responding, we probably will never know.

Well it seams this problem is caused by Acrobat trying to phone home. In other words, if the product is unable to connect to the Adobe server to verify it's authenticity, it will close automatically, and I'm assuming to stop pirated versions from working. Also the file "Adobelmsvc.exe" should auto run when Acrobat starts. If not there is a problem.

    Dear Adobe,

if you bother to read this message, surely a simple message box along the lines of...

"this product cannot verify it's authenticity and will now close"

would have solved all these weeks of bullshit and fixed my problem instantly!

Make sure that the Adobelmsvc.exe is running in the Task Manager > Processes

This sounds like your Acrobat hasn't been activated OR can't verify that it has been.

Run msconfig > Services - hide all Microsoft Services and make sure the Adobe LM Service has a check and is RUNNING.

I am now retracting my statement about the problem being an Nvidia graphics problem, or other graphics issue.

I'm now thinking along the lines of one of Acrobat's updates, or maybe even one of Microsoft's updates causing the problem? Acrobat worked fine for a couple of months when I first installed it, and since reinstalling it has now returned to it's problem of closing automatically. Maybe one of it's updates is not being removed fully when it is uninstalled? or maybe even Microsoft's genuine advantage tools update, as this is constantly changing. (This is just a thought though).

I have a case lodged with Adobe, but have been away for Xmas & New year, but will be following it up in the next few days. If I find a solution from Adobe, I will gladly post it here.

yes, JM, I have done that and Acrobat 7.0.8 works fine. But if Acrobat 8 is with failure, I will give it back and hope to get my money back too.
