All pdfs created have yellow backgrounds

Every pdf I create - from a Word document or create blank page - has a yellow background. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it hasn't fixed it. Version 2021.007.20091.

When opened in another program, they are normal white, so the problem is viewing/display.

Hi

Thank you for reaching out and sorry for the trouble.

We are unable to reproduce this issue at our end.

Kindly Share the machine details i.e the OS version, configuration, etc. for investigating this issue.

It would be helpful if you can share the sample PDF files as well.

Regards,

Sweta Karn

This has worked to fix the issue:

‘Preferences’
Select ‘Accessibility’
Check ‘Replace Document Colors’
Select ‘Use Windows Color Scheme’

Hi there,

This is actually not a bug with the PDF creation itself, but rather a viewing preference within Acrobat that overrides the document colors. It happens when the "Accessibility" options are triggered to reduce eye strain.

Here is the quick fix that usually works:

  1. Press Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac) to open Preferences.

  2. Select Accessibility from the Categories list on the left.

  3. Under the "Document Colors Options" section, uncheck the box that says "Replace Document Colors".

  4. Click OK.

The background should instantly revert to white.

I encounter this setting often when reviewing design proofs for our SEO Agency dubai, as sometimes system updates default to high-contrast modes.

Let me know if that solves it!

Everyone is either focused on display or printing but not both. This is definitely an Acrobat bug as fixing one breaks the other. The dual monitor reference fix is only a display bandaid as is the accessibility setting - neither correct the yellow cast when printing. Removing accessibility changes restores printing properly. Running Acrobat Pro version  Version: 26.2.21931.0.

Hi Radiant_Dolphin4cae,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear that you are experiencing a similar issue.

Could you please share more information on what happens? Do you experience this behavior with all the documents?

To further investigate this behavior, we will require a few details:

  • A short video demonstrating the steps you are taking.

  • A sample PDF so we can replicate this issue.

  • The operating system on your machine.

Once we have this information, we can further assess the problem.

We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

It’s 2026 and I have only started having this problem recently. I followed this advice but it doesn’t work. I have used Photos (the standard viewer in Windows 10) and tested it out by printing out the same image and it did not have a yellow background. I might be wrong but I think I’ve had this problem since using Microsoft Print to PDF. Any ideas on how to stop the image turning white into yellow?

I did try the method mentioned in the email, and it is useless since the problem is not cause by color management settings. The problem is inherent to Adobe Acrobat. The fact that Adobe has not been able to determine a resolution is actually an embarrassment!

On the same monitor, viewing a PDF in Chrome shows no yellowish background and viewing the same PDF in Acrobat shows a yellowish background. This all stemmed from a former setting for eye-strain relief.

On another note, I very much dislike the newer tab and menu display where the tabs are on the top level akin to browser windows. This makes the display look third-worldish.

I cannot reproduce this. Please all update to Windows 11, you all are probably on some old Windows 10, it has all kinds of bugs in color management.

Stop recommending the change of color profile, there is a bug in Adobe acrobat that it does not use color profile in colorcpl.exe

Hi,

If you are using dual displays, please try the below steps

From Windows Control Panel open Color Managment.
Select the affected display (if you have multiple affected displays you will need to repeat the following steps for each one).
Check the box "Use my settings for this device"
Select any existing profiles associated with this device and Remove them.
Click Add and choose the ICC Profile called sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
Click OK and then Close.

Now try to open the PDF

I not sure if this is helpful, but I recall some years ago that Adobe Reader had an option for reducing eye strain by making document backgrounds non-white.  At that time, I turned on this option and this yellowish "feature" has been there ever since.  I can no longer find this option anywhere in the preferences so I can't turn it off.  I'm hoping this information can provide some insight to Adobe to repair this issue.

Ich habe noch eine bessere Lösung gefunden, die dauerhaft für jede PDF funktioniert.
How To Fix Windows Photo Viewer Displaying Yellow Or Orange Tint
Dadurch konnte ich den Fehler beheben, da er nicht nur in Adobe aufgetreten ist, sondern auch in der Dateivorschau im Windows-Explorer.
