Intertrust has released an updated version of its Doc Box plugin for Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Acrobat Reader 5.0.

Users that require the Intertrust digital rights management system in order to open secure pdf files are encouraged to download the new plugin. This new plugin also fixes problems for people who had system or debugger conflicts with the Doc Box plugin.

NOTE: This update is not supported on Windows 95. If you are using Windows 95 and are having issues with DocBox.api, simply remove any and all instances of this plugin. You can find the plugin by doing a search for "docbox.api" on your system.

Downloaded Acrobat Reader 5 from Adobe.com. Got error message "ACRORD32 caused invalid page fault in module DOCBoxAPI at 0337:37030597 (at stage initialising DocBox api). Downloaded DocBox plug in from InterTrust but problem persists.

I had Web Rage when ACRORD32 caused an invalid page fault in module DOCBOX.API til I deleted all instances of DOCBOX.API and AR5.0 started working. Thanks to W T Allen for patiently repeating this solution on several Forum messages. A pox on Adobe for offering as a Knowledge Base "solution" to install an upgrade that doesn't work either. How can "InterTrust" be trusted now to make anything work right?
I even tested reinstalling DOCBOX.API, and sure enough, it again disabled AR5.0 quite effectively in Win95. I deleted it again, and mirabile dictu AR works! I join the chant: Delete Docbox.api! Delete Docbox.api!
PS: Remember also to delete that useless docboxinstaller.exe that Adobe had you download.

Acro5 may not work with it, but I don't think I've seen anybody with Win95 (even 95A) have any problems using Reader 5 once the docbox.api has been deleted.

Yeah, I have to agree it reads like a cross between the Dead Parrot Sketch and the Argument Clinic Sketch. ;?P

Hey, folks, if you get the Docbox.api error, just search for and delete all instances of the docbox.api file.

If you are using Win95, but especially Win95A, either upgrade your OS or don't use Acrobat 5.

    Cheers,

    Sean
