Cannot overwrite acrobat file without save as

I am using acrobat pro on a mac.  When I am using Pages or my drafting program, AutoCAD, and I revise a file and then print a pdf of that file it does not overwrite the previous file, even though I always get a message reminding me that there exists a file of that name and asking me if I want to overwrite it.  I am always forced to change the name of the file to make the pdf.  

I have found that if I quit and reopen acrobat I do not have the problem, but that of course is not convenient.

 

Why is this happening?  It is very disruptive to my workflow.

    The problem happens regardless of the pdf source.

    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro (what is Acrobat "DC"?)

    I am running the latest version 23.08.20423 and have recently rebooted.

    I found your instructions for resetting the preferences beyond by skill level.  

     

    I have found, however, that the problem stems from the pdf remaining in the adobe acrobat window. If you close the tab of the pdf you just created, make a revision and then re-pdf it works correctly.   This is the work around.

    Go to Edit (or the Acrobat app menu on a Mac) - Preferences - "Security (Enhanced)" and uncheck the "Enable Enhanced Security" box, as well as "View in Protected Mode", "Run in AppContainer" or anything else with a similar name.

    Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

    Is this an issue with a particular PDF file created from AutoCAD or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

    What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 23.08.2042X installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

    Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

    Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 and check.
