Question

How do I stop Acrobat from crashing every time I delete something from the Content Panel?

Hi!

I’m running Adobe Acrobat Continuous Release Version 2026.001.21367 | 64-bit.

Everything was fine earlier this month. However, by Friday, April 3rd, I started having problems with Acrobat crashing every time I tried to delete text inside a container in the Content Panel.

At first, when I deleted the whole container, it would also make the container below disappear as well, but the physical content on the page would still be there and would re-appear once the file was save.

Then, I had to revise/replace some text in an H2 tag—not all the text but only some–in a 508-compliant PDF. I had a separate replacement PDF with the correct text and my 508-compliant PDF I was working on. In the 508 file, I went into the Content Panel and tried to delete some of the text in a container and it kept crashing. Over and over it crashed. Then, I separated out the text I needed to replace from the rest of its companion and was able to delete it and then copy in the new text.

This is a new development with Acrobat.

Is anyone else experiencing this sort of issue?

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Erica

Add me to the list. This is happening to me and it is very annoying. It isn’t ‘sometimes’ it is every time.

Haven’t heard back yet.  In case it helps, here is a crash instance I captured that might be cleaner/easier to examine -- it was on a new Acrobat Pro installation on a fresh Windows 11 installed today (no other apps besides Notepad++).

I’ve learned that if I delete the offending container info and immediately save the file you can sometimes beat the clock before it crashes.

I would first do a “save as” to make a new version and then give this a go.

This is happening to our whole team since the update rolled out. It is causing significant delays in our work. We haven’t been able to find a workaround. It makes it very frustrating to do any accessibility work in a file and everythign is taking longer.

This is happening to me as well. It is one of the last things on my list preventing certification

This is happening to me too. I’ve tried everything I can think of to resolve it, but so far nothing has worked.

Deleting images in Content Panel (a common task for some of our users) is a frequent cause of Acrobat crashing which is frustrating our users.  Just noticed it with version 2026.001.21367 | 64-bit on Windows.  We tested, and the exact same operations/same files on Acrobat v25.001.20937 don’t crash -- ever.

I am also having this issue as well as the tags not actually populating in the tag panel even though they’re present in both the content and reading order panels.  Trying to add tags to the tag panel just doesn’t work (I manually tag them and they don’t populate) trying to move tags around because they’re in the wrong order after auto-tagging also causes a crash.  All of this since the April 2 update.  It’s making Acrobat pretty much unusable for accessibility tagging.  So frustrating.

    Hi @moss_e  and @Christa S-K ,

Seems like something broke with the planned update for April.

If you're on MS Windows, does this happen even if you repair the installation?

Also, I would assume that MS Windows is updated to its latest version? (just curious).

In any case, are you able to revert to the prior planned update for March 2026 and see if that resolves the issue?

    Hi @ls_rbls

Yes, I’m running the latest version of Word and I have repaired my Acrobat installation and still the same issues are occurring.

I’ve adjusted my workflow to make this work, but simple files are taking much, much longer to process since I have to save more often.

Also, I’ve noticed that when you delete the last container on a page, since there is nothing under it to “disappear” your system crashes.

I haven’t tried rolling back an update yet. I’ll try that and let you know.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
