Random characters added to end of PDF file when printing with Adobe PDF printer

Hi there,

Curious if anyone has seen this issue where randomly a saved PDF will just add characters after the .pdf extension? I've attached an example picture of one that just happened.

Thanks for any info or help on this.

Correct answer Amal.

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for sharing the details.

The behavior you’re seeing where “Chinese-like” characters or symbols appear randomly in the file suffix when printing to PDF from IntelliCAD is usually related to font encoding or the PDF printer driver having trouble interpreting certain characters. Since it happens inconsistently (sometimes the suffix is normal, other times it isn’t), it suggests an intermittent conflict rather than a corrupted file.

Here are a few steps you can try:

1. Update IntelliCAD and the PDF printer driver – Make sure both are on the latest version, as updates often fix encoding/printing issues.

2. Check file name characters – Ensure the original drawing file names and paths don’t include special characters or symbols, as these sometimes get misinterpreted.

3. Try “Save As PDF” (if available) – Instead of printing, see if IntelliCAD offers a direct “Export” or “Save As PDF” option, which usually bypasses printer driver quirks.

Could you confirm which PDF printer you’re using when this happens (Adobe PDF, Microsoft Print to PDF, or another)? That’ll help provide more targeted steps.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday, printing from an IntelliCAD application to pdf. It randomly added "chinese like" characters / symbols to the suffix. Printing the same file again and again, sometimes it happened others not. Printing other drawings to pdf, the same happened. Some files with "strange" suffix, others normal.

Hi Joseph

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, Random characters added to end of PDF file when printing with Adobe PDF printer.

-Is this a issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

- Would you mind sharing the workflow/steps you are doing?

- What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

You may also try to reset the Acrobat Preferences as described in the help page https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 and see if that helps.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

No, it is completely random. She can save the exact same file to a PDF and it won't produce those characters.

She is just printing to Adobe PDF from a program called Label Traxx. Like I said, very randomly she'll have a file that saves with those random extra characters.

I've attached a picture of her version of Adobe Acrobat. It seems to be the most recent version.

I performed the reset of preferences as well. Not sure when we will know if that was successful though.

Thanks for the ideas!
