Hi

I am using (or TRYING to use!) Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
But every time it loads up I receive the following pop-up message:

"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot continue. Please re-install the application and try again."

I click OK, and then another message appears:
"Acrobat.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x05bf1243" referenced memory at "0x12284e88". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but the error comes back!
What can I do?? Can ANYONE help?!!

I have been waiting patiently for an answer from Adobe but to no avail - I spent 1000 bucks on a multi user license and this is not working. Very frustrating!

Every time I start, it shows the following error in about 1 minute:

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
The instrction at "0x2d830cbc" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Is there anyone know the solution?

Thanks. I was able to get the Administrator account to work--I hadn't yet set a password so by setting the password I was able to use "Run As Administrator" on the Master Collection set up file.

Unfortunately, Acrobat 8.1 still did not install.

I am on XP.

I gave an updated bug report to Adobe hopefully I've given some more info.

The fustrating thing for me is that the Master Collection installer gives no hint as to why Acrobat doesn't install, it merely tells me it wasn't installed. I don't know a whole lot about these things but, given a clue, I can often devise a workaround. I don't even know where to start in this case!

I am trying to install Acrobat Pro 8.1 from an educational version of Master Collection. The rest of the Master Collection installed flawlessly.

I was able to install 8.1 trial version after failing to have it install from the Master Collection disc.

The trial install gave me error 1406 that it could not write value to key...

I tried to get permission to change the key in question in regedit. However, windows would not allow me to make any changes. It credits ownership to "Administrator" however the only account on my HP 1160n is "HP_Administrator".

I ended up clicking "Ignore" for this error along with several other instances of the same error for other keys. The trial ended up installing and working.

Of course the serial number for my master collection wouldn't validate the trial of Acrobat. So I tried reinstalling the master collection version of acrobat and it still wouldn't install.

I also tried running the installer as "Administrator" but windows won't recognize the account.

Perhaps if we had the "ignore" option for errors in the Master Collection install it would help.

Or can anyone help me learn how to gain permission to change the keys.

Thank you. I hadn't seen this kind of info in any of the other posts so I hope I've helped at least a little. I really need Acrobat on this computer! (It installed with a little flaw on my Vista laptop--I had the issue with the acrobat startup screen but it's working okay now.)

Seems that an administrator should be able to change permission. If
your current user is an adminstrator and it can't, perhaps it can
create the missing "administrator" user.

Unless you are on Vista?

I've done what Steve did - uninstalled Acrobat, Deleted the installation folder, and then reinstalled. Acrobat works again (I've not applied the 8.1 update). Thanks Steve.

Looking at the event log I get the following

Application popup: Acrobat.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x04611243" referenced memory at "0x12284e88". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program

I have tried most of the items listed on this thread, with no results.

Staples should not carry Adobe products if after 2 months this is the result of the support we are getting. I figure I will just go back to staples and demand my money back, after printing this thread.

The java sdk did nothing, onecare required me to remove avast - which i don't wish to do. I renamed the flex directory, it was recreated - which i imagine is correct as the licence check needs to occur.

I don't know if flex has anything to do with this or it is something else.

I checked all my memory, I ran virus scans. I removed and reinstalled.

Adobe can I suggest that someone post daily on what is up with this so that folks don't waste more time and get more angry?

Best Regards,
Jack

Hi Steve,

Do you have any other Adobe programs on your computer (eg Reader, Photoshop, etc)?

I have tried to uninstall/delete Acrobat 8.1 and it still doesn't work. Acrobat 8.1 must have loaded some software or changed something on my computer that is not being deleted.

I am planning to reformat one of my computers and reinstalling it. Before all my problems, I had Reader 8.0 and Acrobat 8.0, and it all worked fine. I'm worried that given Reader is now 8.1, it may prevent my Acrobat 8.1 from working.

I have two WinXP machines with the identical problem and everytime this error message comes up is after I've updated to 8.1. So I've uninstalled from Add/Remove Program, then delete the entire Acrobat8.0 folder from C:\Program Files\Adobe, then reinstall. So far 8.0 is stable so I will not run any updates.
