Hi

I am using (or TRYING to use!) Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
But every time it loads up I receive the following pop-up message:

"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot continue. Please re-install the application and try again."

I click OK, and then another message appears:
"Acrobat.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x05bf1243" referenced memory at "0x12284e88". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but the error comes back!
What can I do?? Can ANYONE help?!!

Hi, my name is francisco chávez and i have the same problem, but now i can solve it ;).

I have installed adobe creative suite cs3 with acrobat 8, when i install de acrobat 8.1.2 update from de adobe site the error:
"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot continue. Please reinstall the application and try again." is present.

For sove this problem please follow this step:

1) If you have CS3, please uninstall the Acrobat product, then restart your machine.

2) Download and install a program for clean your windows Registry at this URL http://rapidshare.com/files/106377686/RRW08.zip

PD: i use before registry mechanic, registryclean, cclean, etc without Success, for this motive use ONLY the software indicated (Registry Repair Wizard 2008).

3) When you have the software indicated installed in your PC, runit and select "Scan & Clean"->"Check Registry" with the option "File /Path reference" ENABLED. Then press "Check for Problems".

4) After the scan process, press "Fix Selected Problems" for remove all the bug in your registry, then restart your PC.

5) Star the program again and now select the "Defrag Registry"->"Analyse Registry" option, wait for long time and now press "Compact/Defrag registry". Restart your PC.

6) Now you are able to go to "add and remove programs" in "control panel" of your windows, and ADD the "uninstalled" Acrobat. Wait for a long time (about a 1hr).

7) Your acrobat is now OK, but for finalize the process go to the configuration of updates and Deactivate auto-updates, and NOT Install 8.1.2 update.

Enjoy, this fix is worked for me, i hope this TIPs work for you too.

sorry my poor english

I had installed and activated Acrobat 8 standard edition in Desktop computer with Windows 2000 SP4. Some days ago I replaced that computer with a new one without deactivating Acrobat. It's HD has been already formatted and I can't go back to deactivate.
I tried to install and use again Acrobat in my new computer, with a similar configuration but it does not allow to activate itself. \
Has anyone any idea to solve my problem? Thank you in advance

Ok I am Using abode Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional in Desktop Computer with Windows Xp Pro and on Vista Starters Edition in my Acer Laptop.Previously I was using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 in both of the comps but some features were missing in vista that we use to get for converting word documents to pdf.It installed properly on my xp pc and also on vista. But after some time in vista the windows explorer was shutting down as i clicked on my computer and other networks so i used system restore. The problem got solved and the previous Adobe Acrobat 7.0 got installed and asked installation cd so i canceled it and uninstalled it.Then as I again attempted to reinstall Acrobat 8.1.0 after entering serial no.after few steps then after selecting the location and next steps the windows installer gives the message program has stopped responding. Can any one give any solution to fix this problem without installing vista again.

That would be a negative for me - I have not gotten this to work on my terminal server for nearly 8 months now.

I gave up!

Has anyone successfully patched a W2K3sp2 Terminal Server using the Vista patch?

I have the same problem, I get the message:

---------------------------
sw: Acrobat.exe - Programfel
---------------------------
Instruktionen på "0x04791243" refererade till minnet på "0x03da593c". Det gick inte att utföra en minnesåtgärd. Följande fel returnerades: The memory could not be "written".

Klicka på OK om du vill avsluta programmet.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

and I don't see any fix above that can help. I run XP, use a valid copy of Acrobat 8.0 that I paid a lot of money for but after upgrade to 8.0.1 (or whatever it said), the program is unusable.

Phil and Thomas:

I had this same problem last year (with Vista Ultimate and Crobat Standard 8 and 8.1), and no amount of re-installing fixes it. The problem arose (for me) after a Vista update, and persisted for several months. I was finally put in touch with Chris Chang (Adobe Engineer and very nice guy), who fixed it. My recollection is that it had something to do with the new way Vista was handling "virtualization" (I don't even know what that means). In any case, my installation was fixed by direct intervention and, again, if memory serves, there was a patch posted on adobe's site that seemed to fix all of the Vista problems. If you have not seen the patch, it should be available on Adobe's site.

In several months of research (reading on the internet, installing and reinstalling, blocking services, uninstalling Vista updates, fiddling with the registry, etc.), I decided that the problem was with the [macrovision or macromedia] flexnet licensing service which, as I understand it, tries to phone home every time the software is started. On my computer (even now), if I block that service, delete the hidden files, or end the process, Acrobat gives the same error you are experiencing, so it may be that the virtualization had something to do with Flexnet. I am not sure that this advances the discussion any, but if you are more technical than me, maybe you can do something with it.

Also, I recently had a new motherboard and memory put in the same machine, causing Vista to have a seizure and necessitating a complete reinstall of the OS and everything else with a new Windows product key (no, I am not a pirate, a hacker, a cracker, or any such--it was provided by the manufacturer, who deserves a raspberry for hiring such idiotic technicians as the one who failed to warn me that my OS would die then, worse, failed to tell me it had died, leaving me to discover it for myself after he left my office. DELL). Though I was tensed to see the error recur when I reinstalled Acrobat, it did not (even with all of the Vista updates). So, sadly, a complete reinstall (not update or repair... those did not work for me) of your OS may fix the problem if the patch does not.

Best regards,

Charles

Wow, what a great find regarding that licensing patch. That sounds exactly like what I need, except that Acrobat / Distiller 8 is running on Windows 2003 Server on my machines. Does Adobe provide this for W2K3 Server too? I work for a large company, so I would need an official patch from them meant for W2K3 Server.
