Question

'Unable to display Recent files. Please check later'

Hi, All,

I have Adobe Acrobat installed on my desktop PC and when opening I get the message ‘Unable to display Recent files. Please check later’ and nothing works. I cannot combine, split, create or do anything with a file.

This stopped recently and I got around it by opening an Incognito Window in Google but that has now given up on me as well.

Tried all the usual ‘Help’ files and spoken to various AI bots so a real human with a real human answer would be nice. If I get no joy, I will be shutting my account and asking for a refund of my £100+ paid for this non event!

    Hi there

Thanks for trying out the suggestions and we are sorry to hear that the issue still exists.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 and see if that works.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi @https://adobe.ly/4wFGDPs

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out, we are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

The "Unable to display Recent files" message typically means Acrobat is having trouble connecting to Adobe's cloud services to fetch your file list. The fact that Incognito was working (and now isn't) tells us this is likely a cache or authentication issue, not a problem with your Acrobat installation itself.

Please try these steps in order:

Step 1:  Sign out and back into your Adobe account

    1. In Acrobat, go to Help > Sign Out.

    2. Restart Acrobat.

    3. Sign back in with your Adobe ID at the prompt.

    4. Wait 30 seconds on the home screen for your recent files to load.

Step 2: Check your firewall / proxy settings

Since Incognito mode in Chrome was temporarily working around this, it's possible a browser extension or network setting is interfering. Make sure the following Adobe domains are not blocked by your firewall or security software:

Step 3: Repair the Acrobat installation (Win Only)

    1. Go to Help > Repair Installation inside Acrobat.

    2. Let it complete (it takes a few minutes), then restart your PC and relaunch Acrobat.

Could you also let us know:

    • Which version of Acrobat are you on? (Help > About Adobe Acrobat)

    • Are you on a work PC or a personal device and is there any company VPN or firewall in play?

That will help us narrow it down further if the steps above don't fully resolve it.

Let us know how it goes.

    ~Amal
