Unable to sign PIV certificate to Adobe document

Hello,

I support a government client and required to sign a digital certificate from my issued PIV card to Adobe documents.  I have done this for years and never had an issue until now.  Today (7/14/2021), when I get to the "Sign as" screen, the "Sign" button in the lower right corner seems inactive.  It is not greyed and while it seems to slightly change color when I hover over the button, nothing happens after I click  on it. I've tried several Adobe documents with the same result. I rebooted my OS and have the same results. I confirmed that my certificate is still valid.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Standard 2017 v2017.011.30199 and Windows 10, version 20H2, OS Build 19042.1110.

I appreciate any help from the community with this issue.

Correct answer Amal.

Hi Ron,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described you are unable to sign the PDF using the PIV card as the sign buttons doesn't work.

Since you have the latest version of the application, please try to repair the installation (Win Only) from the Help menu and reboot the computer once.

If it doesn't work, please try to reset the Acrobat Preferences to default as described in the help page https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 and see if that works.

Also, please check for any pending/missing updates for the PIV Card software and try updating it. You may also try to remove the card from the Acrobat application and reinstall/set up and check.

If it doesn't work, try creating a new test user profile with full admin rights in Windows and try using the application there and check.

Regards

Amal

Hi Ron,

Greetings!!

If you face the issue even after following the above steps provided by Amal, Please try to swith to older UI for signing and share if you're getting any error on signing.

You can switch to older UI by going to "Preferences->Signatures->Creation and Appearance Preferences" and unchecking the "Use modern UI interface" checkbox .

Is the certificate's revocation information intact? Please contact the certification authority to make sure that the certificate provided is still valid.

Apart from this, if possible, could you also share an old file which is signed by the problematic certificate?

Regards,

Prashant.

Hi Amal

Thank you. Your suggestion on resetting Adobe preferences worked for me. I can now use my PIV to digitally sign documents.
