Add a sticky to the CF forums?

G'day

Is there any way we can get a sticky added to each of the ColdFusion forums, suggesting the following resources are a good place to start before posting questions:

I spend a bit of my spare time answering people's questions there (and am obviously happy to do so), but really a lot of the questions are pretty naive, and the user could help themselves by taking the above steps before asking.

Even the newest of newbies who can't be expected to know much at all (which is fine!) can help themselves by having a look-see first.  And I always figure it's better for people to try to DIY, rather than show up with a spoon, wanting to be fed.

?

I have added some stuff to the right column on http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/ Shall I add the same to all the subforums?

    • Search the forums before posting for people having had the same problem previously

A useless "feature" of this site that might as well be disabled to spare the server some cpu cycles from the new people who think they're actually going to find something of value with JiveSearch.

Problem with this suggestion is that by the time you can find what you want, you could have already typed out the question, and come back the next day to read the responses...

Yep, looks good.  Can you add a link to livedocs for CF8 or CF9 (I think more people will be on CF8, so think that's perhaps the better one to provide a link for)?

    Regarding

Isn't that (cfml programming) the General ColdFusion category?

I subscribe to 4 forums - Getting Started, General, Advanced, and Database Access.  From my perspective, programming questions get asked in all 4.    Installation and configuration topics tend to be asked primarily in the Getting Started and Database Access forums.

How I would want to organize it:

Global for the whole ColdFusion category:

    1. Remove "Top participants".

    2. Add a "Before your post" guide like http://forums.adobe.com/thread/467760

    Specific to some other categories:

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/

    1. Remove all existing content.

    2. Add a list of subforums with descriptions to help people pick the

    right forum.

    3. Add some blogs (probably feeds.adobe.com, Ben, CF Doc team).

    4. Add links to other resources like the documentation.

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/coldfusionbuilder/

    1. I already added the Team Blog here.

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/coldfusion_advanced

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/coldfusion_administration

    1. Add the Adobe Security blog here with a filter for the ColdFusion

    category.

    Suggestions?

    Sounds good to me.

Cheers for jumping on this so quickly/thoroughly, Jochem.

This forum does not really support sticky topics. But we can create HTML

widgets with just about anything you want. Could you check the following

examples and tell me how elaborate a widget you would want?

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_general

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/flashplayer10

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/robohelp/

Also, did you get any input from people like Ian, cfSearching and BKBK

on the idea and the text / links?

Oh, and for my 2p, the Robohelp one looks about right.  There's no point cluttering up the place too much.
