back button in threads

When I am viewing a thread list (say Flash General Discussions for example) and I browser forward past the first page of results, and then open one up, and click the back button in my browser, I go back to the first page of results again, rather than the page I was on, as I would expect.

Related to that is the links in the ant-trail at top of page to get back to an overlaying topic. If you are in general discussion for Indesign  for instance and click on the InDesign link  whcih is the forum enclosing the ID sub-forums - you get to nowhere. Same with some other forums. If you go down in the hierachy those levels do exists, but if you go up in hierarchy in a forum via the links at top of page, they suddenly don't exist.

Must have been a glitch, Nini, it works for me. I just went to ID General Discussion, clicked InDesign in the breadcrumb trail and got this:

The back button thing is killing me! I just can't break 15 years of web browsing habits for these guys. Even hitting Back in pages of forum lists (not just in threads) takes me back to the beginning. Couldn't the Jives at least say WHY they like this?

bumping this because trying to read and answer questions on any posts that scroll off page one is a real hassle. this needs to be moved up the priority fix chain guys!!!

That is one of the most requested fixes. I think people can presume that it's being looked at closely and will be implemented as soon as is reasonably possible. In the meantime, I've been learning to remember to open threads in a new tab. Decent workaround... 'cept when I forget. Then I cuss.

I do note that if you click the "Up to x in y" link (Up to Discussions in Forum Comments) at the top of the thread page, it does return you to the correct page.

Seems to me that this is something simple that should be automatically implemented.  The age of RIA's has been here for a long time, and this was one of the MAJOR UI problems of early adopters.  You would think that those that make RIA's their business would get it right...

I wish I had some idea what the heck you are talking about.  What is the "Up to x in y" link??  I haven't seen that.

    What is an RIA????

It's as if the web were a new paradigm for Jive to explore. In 15 years they haven't run across this "back button" you speak of. And when you DO get back to page 1, often a post you just submitted is not yet at the top of the list. Well, I'm not a developer -- I imagine hypertext markup language is pretty tricky, even for the pro's.

    ditto. that's gotta be fixed.

on page (not 1) say, 3. click to read thread. hmm... already helped or can't help, click back. back on page 1 of topic list. very very annoying.

I've noticed the same thing. Very annoying when you're on page 4 of a forum.
