Question

How to Check New ID?

This is probably too basic, but I would like to check to see what Adobe has me signed up with. The current preferences don't say anything about a new Adobe ID or links to old screen name. Had a hard time with the original message to provide new info., only took after several tries, so not sure if successful.

Thanks

I think the use of an email address as an ID probably started years ago, when people rarely had more than one email address and hardly ever changed them. It doesn't really work now.

The problem that I ran into was caused by changing my e-mail address.

When I did that, I lost access to my previous product registrations.

So I just changed back to the first e-mail address and my earliest products are registered there.

Since then, my e-mail ISP has changed twice more. So I now have different groups of registrations tied to three different accounts. The earlier ones remain tied to the e-mail addresses in use when I registered; while my CS4 registrations only appear in my newest Adobe ID which is tied to my new e-mail address.

    Convoluted!

I don't see how changing your screen name would affect your product registrations. It still points to the same account in the database. But if you created a new Adobe ID, then it would be separate from your old account (both would now exist) and product registrations would only be tied to one of the (the original).

John, your screen name here in adobeforums.com is not tied to anything anywhere else. You can change your name here, but it will only change here and will not follow into the new forums.

Changing your Adobe ID will not change your screen name. The screen name on the Account Information page will stay the same if you change your Adobe ID.

I would like to know if you can change the email in your account without affecting your registrations. I believe Ann said it caused her a problem but I think they have since made changes to the software.

    Thanks for the explanation.

Out of curiosity, I had a look and found that I have a defunct email address in there. I wanted to change it to a current one but noticed the warning that my Adobe ID (which is not that old email) would change.

Can I do this without affecting the current screen name, which appears in both old and new forums?

    Go to http://www.adobe.com.
Click on the Your Account link at the top of the page
Sign in with the Adobe ID and password you associated to your forum account.
    Click on Edit Account Information
Look at what is in the Screen Name field.

The Screen Name is what will show up next to your posts in the new system. And you can change that name on that page.
