Question

Icons?

Does anyone have a handy reference for the meanings of the different icons? They aren't seeming to make sense. Some look like two generic chat bubbles and some have a 1 and a 2 in the bubbles.

Additionally, I saw where apparently a post was answered as it had a nifty icon that seemed to indicate it. But when viewing the thread, there seems no indication of which post contained the answer.

Cheers... Rick

I feel that the "talk bubble" icons to the left of thread titles on the index pages are superfluous crap, the type many of us sneer at.

Why the heck do the so-called designers of this new forum platform refuse to listen to us on matters like this?

    Hi all

Tried replying to this earlier and it bombed.

Okay, so I finally managed to sort it using some trial and error.

For anyone like me that was wondering about it, here goes.

When you create a thread, you have a check box that determines whether the thread is a question.

The appearance of the icons is dependent upon whether this option has been enabled at the time a thread was created.

This seems a bit confusing to me as I would consider all threads to really be questions.

    Cheers... Rick

wanted to add to my previous post, but Rick jumped in before I was done. I agree with his reply, so let me just pile on a little more: ====================================================

I feel that the "talk bubble" icons to the left of thread titles on the index pages are superfluous crap, the type many of us sneer at.

The same is true for the icons next to "Edit" and "Reply," as well as all of the text links in the "Actions" and "Notifications" sections. Same with the "New," "Your Stuff," History," "Browse" items next to our usernamesnear the top of the pages. There are more, but that should suffice as a set of examples.

It's not that I am dead set against icons; those which are used for stylizing text and inserting items in the message composition editor are clear, and take up less room than their text equivalents would.

But PLEASE, somebody explain to us the reasoning behind including the icons I mentioned at the beginning of this post? What service do they perform? How do they provide extra usefulness beyond the text links?

    THEY ARE USELESS. FULL STOP.

Why the heck do the so-called designers of this new forum platform refuse to listen to us on matters like this?

As you started this thread, you can mark an answer as helpful (5 points) or answered (10). Whoever gets the most points gets a prize. (I made that bit up). If we're having points to hand out for good answers, we should have the chance to deduct them for wrong ones.

"But when viewing the thread, there seems no indication of which post contained the answer."

There's a yellow blob in the post if it's been given points.
