Why are new text layers in CC not centered by default any more and how to fix that?

In older versions of AE a new text layer was always centered to the anchor point in the x-relation by default. This is not that way anymore: Even though the anchor point is still at 0/0 the text layer itself is slightly offset, which means each text layer needs to be adjusted manually for any text change or duplication...

Why does this not work any more, and how can I set the default back to the correct center setting?

    If you reset the character panel and select new text layer the anchor point will be exactly in the middle of the comp and the paragraph will be anchored exactly on the anchor point.

    if this is not the case then you have offset one or more of the parameters in the paragraph or character panels.

    Personally, I almost always use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + t to start a new text layer because it's faster than digging through the menu. I position the text and size it using the Character Panel after it is entered. I just find that a much more efficient way to work.
