I had ADE 3 installed and without uninstalling it I ran ADE 4.Then I uninstalled ADE 3. I try to open an ascm file and an error appears: "check activation". I looked for solutions on the forum and I've seen the recomendation of de authorizing the computer. But it doesn't let me.

I was having the same issue and the customer support fed me the same answers above. Did not work!

Thinking about it, I figured the key was also stored somewhere else.  So in addition to deleting the Adept key I deleted my Adobe credentials from:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept\Activation\0001\0005

I have the same problem and no one seems to have the answer. Very frustrating.

I had downloaded ADE version 4 and was getting the same error when trying to open a file.  Try as I might I could not deauthorize my computer.  However, I found another chat community that recommended uninstalling ADE4, and installing ADE3.  That resolved my problem.

For this problem, you need to deauthorize and authorize ADE again.

If due to some reason, you are unable to deauthorize ADE, follow the below steps:

Mac: Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

ADE will be deauthorized now.

Now Authorize ADE again.

Windows:

  • Choose Start > Run.

  • In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

  • In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

  • Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

  • In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

ADE will be deauthorized now.

Now Authorize ADE again.
