Can I successfully install Adobe photoshop cs5.5 with an intel Core 2 quad CPU 2.4 GHz?

I'm attempting to install Adobe eLearning Suite 2.5 with this windows vista home premium 32-bit.

The installation tells me no. I have 3 GB of RAM.

Am I going to have to upgrade my processor or can I get away with this set-up?

Adobe installer also is warning that I'm not compatible with Dreamweaver cs5.5, Adobe flash pro cs5.5, and acrobat X pro

Hi kbmcfarlane

The specifications states it can be which are found here

  • Some features in Adobe Bridge rely on a Microsoft DirectX 9–capable graphics card with at least 64MB of VRAM
  • Some GPU-accelerated features in Adobe Photoshop Extended require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
  • QuickTime 7.4.5 software required to use QuickTime features
  • Shader Model 3.0
  • Microsoft Office 2003 required for Adobe Presenter

Be sure to check your graphics card, required is:

  • 1,024x768 display (1,280x800 recommended) with 16-bit or greater video card@@@

Your processor looks fine,.. you state a Intel 2 so you're fine

here's a tool you can use to verify that:

Intel® Download Center

You need 7+Gigs on your hard drive, and you need directX installed and shader for PS-extended,

Honestly, imho, 3Gigs of Ram - you'll be pulling your hair, and/or enjoying a leisurely learning/teaching period at least I was, but I don't use eLearning Suite, I used both 5.5 and CS6/CC with 4Gigs initially, and imho, yah, it will run but expect it to me slow. It states 1 gig is required I honestly don't know how it could run on that, please remember that many times when a software vendor puts up their own system requirements, they are referring to ONLY their software, and not the OS you already have and ram being used, so it should be "Available Ram, as they state Available Space"

If you are installing over http, you might check your browsers version, and associated software.

or If you are installing using Adobe's Install wizard, then you may need to check your connection, you need to have broadband service, so a standard dial-up wouldn't work.

Hope this helps. imho, I think you will have a hard time with it being more than annoyingly slow,

My guess is that your hard drive space is not large enough, (less than the 7 gigs required for only the adobe software, so you need a minimum (bare minimum) of 7 gigs, honestly, you should have considerably more than that available ... your operating system will require it's cache, and so will adobe, so you should have at least a 100gig hard drive for your other required software too..

required is a version of ms office, direct x, and a few others, so make sure those are installed first, before you try and install Adobe's product.

imho.

Thank you for the prompt reply!

I have plenty of hard-drive space. I plan on increasing the RAM here soon. The video card is NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS with the following specs:

64-bit Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)6.4 GB/sec Standard Memory Config Per GPU 256MB

I'll check the other things you mentioned.

Thanks again for your thoughtful and well-considered response. I think I'm going to try to install after some further checks.... or maybe wait for more RAM.

BTW, I'm able to use video editing software (not Adobe's), though simple, it seems to capture video and operate fairly smoothly.

K

If you are thinking of getting into Adobe's Video or 3D Software, the specifications are Much Different. Just for photoshop, my scratch disk, generally a good 50-80 Gig's per day. ( I have to clean it, since I rarely reboot )

I chose speed and integrity over Volume. i.e. I purchased a 250gig Solid State Drive (which I dearly Love) But I do have to be careful of What goes on my HD, like system index's could never fit on my C drive, nor Scratch disk, and anything but system/software files, forget it. Windows 7 has real issues with it's profile management lol, it's not like you can just delete your profile and expect your computer to run correctly on reboot. Or in some cases, change the location ( Huge No No  too) having said that, you can set it up on initial install, but not afterwards. Having your profile on a separate drive which would give some consistency to the required open drive space. But I'm afraid that would lose you valuable time, hence it would not be a viable solution..

==================

CS6 or curent video processing and 3D generation is a whole different ball game than the educational side. Whereas the edu requirements are probably the minimal that adobe has, their video processing and 3D are absolutely at the top end.

here's the spec's: requires a Pentium 4 Minimum for a processor, I have a duel i5, and for the most part my processor never gets over 1/2 or 3/4 in use. ( I watch it and my memory - both ram and HD like a hawk)

My graphics card it not that great, because I'm using a laptop as a desktop really. But it does have 2 gigs on board, and it can run OpenGL 2.0+ and use the hardware acceleration mode.

CC (Cloud) is another step up from there.

Again they say 1gig of Ram and 1 Gig of hard space- I'd laugh if this wasn't so tragic. Seriously, they must figure "ow, people will upgrade after they install it." hell, I wanna upgrade my hardware before I spend HOURS installing software. I could not fathom anyone trying to use either CS6 or CC with 1 gig of ram. I can tell you right now, No One in this day and age could use those specifications, maybe 100 years ago, when they were used to waiting three weeks for a letter. I mean, your patience level would have to be that. I personally would throw my computer into the bay, and spend my life gardening. There is *no amount of money* that could get me to use CS6 or CC with the spec's as states, triple them, and it's still an *iffy* call. I have more than triple, and I dealt with it for a year, and I want to upgrade.

so, just one programmer to another, that's my call on the required spec's.

~good luck, and stay safe~
