I have Cool Edit Pro version 2. I also have Adobe Audition upgrade. I need help making my Cool Edit work that I purchased. Then, I want to upgrade and use my Adobe Audition, but I'm running into trouble with both installing. And I have all the information I think needed to make it work, but it is not.

For help with Cool Edit Pro you will likely have to try their support channels. Not sure how Adobe can help with that?

Yes Adobe did buy Cool Edit Pro, but many many years ago. There is absolutely no support for it now. Cool Edit Pro 2 became Adobe Audition 1.0, which also has no support. All the activation systems for software prior to CS2 (Audition 3) were shut down. Sorry, but you're out of options.

Auditon and Cool Edit are slightly niche products as they came from the Serious Magic acquisition by Adobe around the same time period as the Macromedia acquisition.
Angusdog1 what specific error message are you receiving when you enter your serial number? As I recall a non-activating serial number was provided for Audition 1.0 and 2.0 when the acquisition was made. Audition 3.0 included the licensed activation technology which was affected by the activation server shut down. A list of products which were affected can be found at Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products.
Unfortunately since they were Macromedia serial numbers it would be impossible to register the serial number with Adobe. It sounds like you still have access to the serial number for Audition 1.0 however?

Hi Angusdog1,
As Dave Merchant notes, activation for Adobe Audition 3 and older is no longer available. However, Adobe has created a workaround for affected customers. There is a special version of CS2 available which includes Audition. The special version can be downloaded and activated by following the instructions in this help document: Error: "Activation Server Unavailable" | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3. Please note that you need to use the serial number provided during installation. Your existing serial number will not work. Also be aware that there is no guarantee the older software will be compatible with newer operating systems.
Let us know how it goes or if you have further questions.

Del - your information is incorrect. The CS2 bypass serials are only issued for use by customers who have a license for a qualifying product - CS2, Acrobat 7 and Audition 3. This user does not have Audition 3, they have Audition 1, and so using the installers is not permitted under Adobe's terms of license.

It has been my understanding that the CS2 bypass was intended to assist all customers affected by the activation server shutdown, which includes people who had earlier versions of the software which utilized that server. However, I will certainly check my information and get back to you.

Hi Dave Merchant,
I have asked Jeff Wright, who wrote the discussion you reference, to address this topic. There are apparently some specialized details for Audition 1. Thanks for bringing this to my awareness.
Best,

What are the specialized details relating to Audition 1.0?

Hi John,
As Jeff indicates, Audition 1 and 2 customers were provided a non-activating serial number when Adobe acquired Serious Magic. Therefore, they should not have been affected by the CS2/Audition 3 activation server shutdown because they didn't rely on the same licensing technology.

Del
