Thanks a alot Steve. Since they are in one section of preference and also in help pages i want to know what is the link between the two. Like u said both are unrelated, but when matching them is useful?

    Should anyone match them?

googling reveals a number of results that say grids should be in golden ratio for better design. Does this make sense with context to InDesign Layout? When having document grid as golden ratio be helpful?

    Thanks Barb.

And I'll add that the document grid is helpful when you have to draw in InDesign. Let's say you are asked to put together a quick org chart, and don't have Visio and don't know how to use Illustrator. The grid lines will help you quickly draw the shapes and line them up. (Smart guides of course, does the same thing in a different way.)

There are a bazillion features (ok, maybe it just feels like there are a bazillion features) but most InDesign users just use a small portion of what is available, and are very successful in their work.

The two features (Document Grid and Baseline Grid) have no connection with each other. They are used for totally different purposes.

Document Grid is a highly specialized tool, and it's only very rarely used. Baseline Grid is more frequently used for graphic designers when baseline alignment is required.
