Canon ICC Profiles Not Showing in LR

Community Beginner ,
Dec 05, 2018 Dec 05, 2018

Hello,

Most of my Canon paper profiles are not showing in LR as a drop down option when soft proofing is on. These profiles do show properly when I use Canon's Print Studio Pro. Is there something I need to do to get these profiles to show in LR?

Thanks.

If the profiles don't show it is almost always a driver installation issue often caused by the driver no longer being fully compatible with the latest operating system update. Ignore the Canon app completely as what you see there has nothing to do with how Lightroom (or any non-Canon app) prints, you simply need the printer driver to be updated. Usually this is done by downloading the latest version from the Canon website and installing. You might need to recreate the printer connection in the s

Is this a new problem? Or, did it work before (as in a previous version of LR)?

Good question, the problem is new. I've not printed is several months so it did work in previous versions of LR.

You may want to search the forum for previous members issues, Those in fact with Canon printers. Something in the back of my head screams you need to replace your existing icc profiles with new ones from canon.

Or it could be, that the process of reinstalling corrects some file location issue.

Not sure if it was an issue with profile version, profile standard, or actual profile getting lost.

Thanks, I'll search again on this. I spoke to Canon and they pointed the finger at Adobe because their profiles were showing up properly in their software.

Well, started experimenting with mine, when I browse (in the soft preview section) I see that the profile location is not an adobe folder, but a windows OS folder related to spooling, so not a file location issue.

When you do that, do you see other profiles?? Think you mentioned something about a different printer (or was that an app?)

Yes, I should have pointed out that I am on a Mac. Canon comes with its own printing app called Print Studio Pro which takes the place of LR's print module. In Canon's app I can see all the paper profiles which is why this is probably a LR issue.

That was the problem, after re-installing the driver my profiles showed up. I have a suspicion that this may need to be done after LR updates. Thanks to you both for your help.

So, moved over to my MAC Book, launched LR and went into soft proff, for profile I selected other, and I see a folder chock full of various Epson icc profiles (in library). As on the Windows OS, these are not in an Adobe directory/folder but in an OS one. Mind you, I hav no Canon printer, hence no canon ICC.

Is this not the same file location that the Print Studio Pro would use?

Note, got waylaid while posting this, so a bit late

Once I reinstalled the driver and selected Other, all the Canon (and other profiles I downloaded) show up properly.

The Canon drivers are in the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Resources/ICCProfiles/ folder whereas my 3rd party profiles are in the /Users/yourname/Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder.

I am guessing that this is the case because Canon installs its print software so that it is available to all users with a login account.

Oh and apologies if this is something you tried already, have you clicked on "other" in the popup and looked for them there? Lightroom gets the list you see there from the operating system. If you don't see them in other, the printer driver is not set up correctly.
