LR not relinking all photos

I keep all of my files on an external hard drive and work off them on that drive.  Recently the drive crashed (it was backed up) and a new drive was supplied to me with the recovered files.  My files are all in the same file structure - just a different drive.  When I click on the ! in the upper right corner and relink the file in LR, it does not do this for all the files in that folder.  I thought it was supposed to.  Needless to say, that is a major inconvenience.  Why is it not doing that?  Thanks.

Correct answer GoldingD

Two issues.

1. Hard drive assigned letter (WIN) or name (MAC). You will want that to match before crash.

2. You mentioned the ! symbol (on image thumbnail) as opposed to the ? mark (associated to the folder, in folders panel), Perhaps the folder break should have been fixed

The folder is no longer appearing in LR.  Hopefully this essay on re-linking will provide a solution nevertheless.  Otherwise I'll have to do it one image at a time.   Thank you.
