Lightroom will not import my .cr2 files

I have been using Lightroom Classic on my Windows PC for years - no issues (Version is up to date, I just checked on ImageCloud and there is no update waiting)

In the last week I suddenly can't import cr2 files (Only change on my side, I installed more memory on my PC for better performance)

Lightroom says there is no preview available and when I click on import I a get an error that says "The file cannot be opened by Lightroom"

Photoshop and camera raw will open the file no problem, so I do not suspect a corruption issue on the files.

If I convert the file to a .dng then Lightroom will import it, no problem

If I import the same file on my laptop in Lightroom, no problem

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark iv.

I use SanDisk memory cards

I use a card reader to transfer images from the card to my hard drive

I then import into Lightroom from the hard drive

To get around this error I have been converting the cr2s to DNGs using Lightroom on my laptop then importing the DNGs into Lightroom on my PC.

So Lightroom on my laptop and Lightroom on my PC are not linked.

The wrong workflow for sure, but I am not sure how to fix this.

    I am currently running LR CC 2015.8 and am still having this same issue...

    I just uninstalled LR Classic as I had both CC and Classic loaded on my CPU. I got rid of Classic cause it would not find any of my photos, kept saying they were missing... yes I recently did some housekeeping and moved some things around and I am aware that's why they were "missing" and unable to be viewed.

    But, I am still at a loss as to why I cannot view CR2 files with Lightroom CC?

    It won't even import/read these files, Help?

     

    Also I'm using a Canon 6D MKII

    Lightroom Classic is the current version of Lightroom for the desktop, and the current release number is 9.12. Lightroom CC 2015.8 is old, out-of-date, and significantly behind Lightroom Classic. By uninstalling Lightroom Classic and reverting to 2015.8, you have reverted to an older version that definitely would not support your newer images. There is no "Lightroom CC" anymore. Lightroom Classic is the term for the version that stores images locally on your computer, and Lightroom is the term for the version that stores images in the cloud. Lightroom Classic, current version is 9.2. Lightroom, current version is 3.2. Lightroom CC 2015.8 is ancient history.

     

    The first version of Lightroom that supported your camera was Lightroom CC 2015.12 (In this case 12 > 8). However, that version is not available for download anywhere anymore, Not even from Adobe. The version of Lightroom Classic that you uninstalled would have supported it. It is unclear to me why you would have removed Lightroom Classic.

    I  Have the same problems.  I recently tried to use lightroom for some new photos. It says,Not recognized for support by Lightroom.  I have used lightroom for some six years without this problem.

    Following suggestions, I downloaded Adobe DNG converter 11.4.1. ( for Mac). I continue to have this issue.

    I did learn, to my surprise, that (Apple) photo will now handle raw files.,  I prefer lightroom.

    Minimum LR for 5D Mk IV is  CC 2015.7

    Cameras supported by Camera Raw

    And that is most certainly not the latest version.

    Do you perhaps have more than one copy of Lightroom Classic CC installed?

    Any version of LR CC 2015 is several years old.

    That is the problem, thank you. All sorted now.

    I do have 2 copies loaded, so when I reset my system I put the wrong

    shortcut on my desktop, just assumed the different look was an update.

    Feeling quite stupid now

    I was too scared to uninstall the previous copy when I went over to

    Creative Cloud as I was worried about the catalogues. Can I uninstall the

    old copy without creating an issue?

    Thanks, I had 2 copies of Lightroom loaded and I was accessing the wrong one
