Failure to open photos

When trying to open some photos, an error message pops up.  It is:  "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)." These photos were downloaded from the same card and at the same time as photos that do open.  If you have a solution for this, please advise me on what actions to take.   Thank you.

If in windows, try opening them in irfanview (free) and saving them there. On a mac, use Preview.

Thanks, Barbara, for your reply.  I'm a technological novice and not sure that I understand your answer.  Is irfanview an online program?  Will I ultimately be able to save the photos on the drive where I have my other photos organized?  Wasn't really clear why that happened to random photos. . .  Thanks again for your help.

Irfanview is a free and very useful utility program:

http://www.irfanview.com/

Sometimes it can understand files that are too damaged for PSE to read.

Thank you, Barbara. It worked and I'm not even sure why. I didn't have to do anything beyond download the program! Thanks again.

Hi Sandra,

I just dig out this problem on other forums and found this post : http://forums.adobe.com/message/3625238

See if that helps.

Do check if all of the images have the correct and same extension.

Also try opening the image on mspaint and saving it as JPEG once again and then opening it Organizer once again.

Thanks

Thanks, Andaleeb,

Another suggestion was made to download http://www.irfanview.com/ . It is a free utility program, according to Barbara B.; and, it seemed to miraculously work! I'm back in photo-tweaking business! Thanks again for your help. Sandy
