Photoshop Elements 2018

For some reason I can't open smart objects. I have some mock-up templates I purchased and when I open them, I see the smart object icon in the layer, but when I double click on it to open, it doesn't do anything. I have several different ones and each one does the same thing. It's like the smart object feature is not enabled. Does Photoshop elements not support smart object editing?

If they were created in Photoshop, and not Photoshop Elements, you may not be able to open them in Photoshop Elements.
