Problems recording pen path in Actions

I have 100 images that need a specific selection filled with a particular colour. This selection has to be the same and in the same spot in every one of the images and the selection is complex. The best way to make this selection is with the pen tool.

I dont want to do this manually, so the only way I can see to do this in Actions is to record the pen path using "Allow Tool Recording" in the Actions drop down menu, but the action only records the anchor points of the path. None of the curvature of the path is being applied in the action when I run it on my batch of images..

Is there another way to apply a specific selection to a bunch of images derived from the pen tool??

I'm using PS CC 19.1.6

Losing my mind with this one...

Hi Alexf,

The Insert Path command lets you include a complex path (a path created with a pen tool or pasted from Adobe Illustrator) as part of an action. When the action is played back, the work path is set to the recorded path. You can insert a path when recording an action or after it has been recorded.

  • Do one of the following:

    • Start recording an action.
    • Select an action’s name to record a path at the end of the action.
    • Select a command to record a path after the command.
  • Select an existing path from the Paths panel.

  • Choose Insert Path from the Actions panel menu.

If you record multiple Insert Path commands in a single action, each path replaces the previous one in the target file. To add multiple paths, record a Save Path command using the Paths panel after recording each Insert Path command.

Sahil

Yes insert Path is what you want the document should also be the same size and aspect ratio.  The Path will be relative to the document top left corner.   If you have the same size document like an 11x14 and a 14X11 the path created in the 11x14 portrait may not all be within the 14x11 canvas because of the differences in document aspect ratio

I will add to the above instructions to follow path insertion by step Set selection which you can record using a third icon from the left in the Paths panel - Load path as a selection. The next step will be to fill that selection using desired color which can be done using Edit > Fill command. Hopefully, your files have only Background or single layer so you do not have to worry about anything else.
