Sony RX100 ARW files

Explorer ,
Aug 04, 2012 Aug 04, 2012

We just bought a Sony RX100 and want to use it with our Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 and Camera Raw 6.7.0.339.  The Raw files (extension .ARW) produced by the camera can't be opened by Camera Raw.

1. Can any released version of Camera Raw open these files?

2. Do we have to update to Photoshop CS6 to be able to open these files?  (If so it's a tribute to corporate greed.)

3. Does anyone know if Sony software can help convert these files?

Thanks,

1. No

2. No - CS6 can't open them either

3. Yes - download Sony's converter here http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/imsoft/Win/idc/us.html for the Windows version - and here http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/imsoft/Mac/idc/us.html for the Mac version.

LATEST
  1. Not yet.  Probably within a month or so.
  2. Only the latest version of Photoshop / Camera Raw will add new models.  But the stand-alone converter to Digital Negative (DNG) format will also be updated and your older Photoshop should work on that.  I'm not sure how much will be lost in going to DNG format.

Yes, for what they charge for Photoshop, they should maintain it longer than a year.
