Canon AVCHD Files problem

I shot a conference with a Canon XA10 which records in AVCHD format. I using PP 2018 and have read the many discussions regarding how to use these files. I have copied the entire "private" folder to my hard drive. I then go to the media browser and drill down to the \private\AVCHD\BDMV\stream\00000.MTS and select import. I get a message that the MTS file is conforming but upon completion of this process, I can not view the file. If I just double click on the individual MTS files in file explorer, the files play fine, but I can not get them to play in PP.

You should see the media upon clicking on the Private folder in Media Browser.  If you don't, click the little eyeball at the top of that window and change from File Directory to AVCHD.

As a test, don't navigate all the way to the .mts files. Just locate the Private folder and select Import.

You will get a message saying there are several files that Premiere can't import - click OK.

Do the files that are imported work for you?
