Premiere Pro won't play any video unless I reset the preferences in every start.

So, as the titles explains. Unless I reset the settings everytime I open a project I can't play any video.

The sound will play but not the video. I have spent the last two days trying to work this out and finally found this work around it.

What is causing this problem? How can I fix it? It's so annoying, I almost set my new laptop back because I though it was an hardware problem.

I really apreciate if someone knows how to fix it.

I already did all the usuals, Sound check, the playback etc ect.

Thanks

So, the problem has been finally fixed. None of the above helped but the latest Microsoft windows update fixed it.

It has been working like a charm for the last few days.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/Premiere-Pro/FAQ-How-to-fix-workspace-related-issues-in-Premiere-Pro/td-p/9791486

I am having the same exact problem on a laptop.

Nothing fixes from the post above. Any clues on this?

Hi Miguel,

Try this troubleshooting step: Fixing permissions problem (slow startup)

I hope it helps. Let us know if it did or not.

Thank You,
Kevin

Both Links don't contain any info on what to do.

Sorry about that! Looks like that that doc needs to be freshened up. See if this helps: Preferences folder read-only error | Permissions issue

Thanks,
Kevin

I've noticed this since 13.x too.  I can start a project, cut it for hours, scrub, everything is fine.  Then I save, exit, reboot, and later come back to the project and suddenly no h.264 footage scrubs or plays in a timely manner -- it takes 13+ seconds to update the display.  I can generate proxies just fine (Adobe Media Encoder doesn't seem to have a problem reading h.264) and those play ok, but I don't like being forced to work with proxies.  I also don't like resetting preferences every time to get things working again.

I have an intel quicksync CPU and I have all acceleration turned on.  Switching from Mercury CUDA to Software Only does not help.

After some experimenting, I've found that resetting the plugin cache by holding SHIFT on startup seems to fix things.  The only 3rd-party plugin I have installed (which I'm not using in this project) is NeatVideo.  This retains preferences.

While this is a better workaround than losing your preferences, it is still annoying because it must be done every single time or else you can't play back h.264 footage.  Someone at Adobe should look into this.

MobyGamer, that's exactly what I have to do every single time. Unless I reset nothing works.

It's annoying because I rely on custom settings! I can't customise anything.

I just find it annoying that I am paying almost £50 every month for software that never works, always full of bugs and then you won't even get a response from Adobe regarding the problem.

Having to reset the settings is not a fix, it's an annoying way around it. I honestly considering leaving Adobe, having to meet the deadlines of a project is already hard enough when you have multiple projects, spending days trying to fix bugs is ridiculous.

When you ask a question you need to provide some basic information

-Forum quick start https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-5601

Mac or Windows, and EXACTLY which version of the operating system, and have you recently updated?

Recent Mac AND Windows operating systems have been known to cause "odd" problems

Are you using a computer Administrator account with full read/write permission?

Exactly which version of the program do you have that is causing problems?

And specific to Premiere Pro

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers

Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter

•nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

•ATI Driver https://www.amd.com/en/support

There are also intermittent reports that the newest driver is not always the best driver due to driver bugs or compatibility issues, so you MAY need to try an earlier driver version

You mention laptop

Do you have dual graphics adapters?

Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

IF YES, read below

I Have the latest windows update. All my drivers are up to date. Other editing software works perfect.

I have installed older versions of GPU drivers and nothing changes.

Premiere Pro is detecting the GPU well, in the Nvidea settings i set up Premiere to run of the RTX. Nothing changed, I still need to flush the Premiere Settings.

My Specs are:

I7 8750H

RTX 2070 Max-Q

32GB Ram

Alienware M17
