Rotate video from vertical to horizontal (the whole video) w/o black bars

So I've made a video, which was is vertical (I pressed record while the phone was vertical thats why it recorded like that) and I need it in horizontal.

I thought it wouldn't be a problem, and that it should be easy to turn, turns out it isn't.

When I apply the effect of the rotation I get black bars (makes sense, as the ratio changes).

Is there any way how I can fix that w/o making the video again?

I won't make this mistake again

And I know, recording via iPhone isn't the best choice, but it was in this particular moment, also I'm pretty new to capturing videos, thats why I didnt want to buy a camcorder for it (especially as it gets uploaded to YouTube and Facebook)

Hi marcelmoosheimer,

I understand you are getting resolution reversed after rotating the clip. You want to remove the black bars from the preview in Program Monitor. There are various methods to do that. Here are few:

  1. Select the file in the timeline > Right click > Scale to frame size.

    2. Select the file in timeline > Select zoom level in Program monitor and adjust it to Fit the screen.

  3. If the methods mentioned above do not work for you then you can adjust the vertical and horizontal values for the sequence.

    Sequence > Sequence Settings, change the value for the frame size (horizontal and vertical) as per the resolution that you wish to see.

If you filmed vertical then that is what you get.

You cannot change the view of the footage.

Its either portrait in a portrait frame with no black bars, portrait in a landscape frame with black bars or zoomed-in in a landscape frame with no black bars.

If this is not the case post screenshot.

Hey thanks for your help!

The last idea helped.

I also found out that I'm able to rotate the video via iMovie on my iPhone (just in case someone has the same problem, thats how I was able to do it too!)
