Unable to record V/O in Premiere

Hello all,

I am new to Premiere and I am very satisfied with it and the information I am getting from Adobe tutorials as well as this forum thread. However, I am having a problem recording a voiceover to the timeline. First, let me tell you what I have tried to rectify the problem:

I am using a MacBook Air running a Mojave operating system.

I went to the machine's System Preferences/Sound and made sure the machine's internal mic was activated and functional. When I spoke, you could clearly see the inputs. However, when I clicked on the microphone icon in the timeline, waited for the countdown and began recording, the frame said "recording" on it, but no inputs were registering in audio. I stopped recording and there was box where the recording was registered, but there were no sound waves and no sound was recorded.

I went to Premier preferences/audio hardware and ensured that "built-in microphone" was selected, as directed by Adobe tutorials. Still nothing. I assumed that perhaps that Premier did not work with my Mac's internal mic, so I purchased an external USB mic. Once again, I went through Mac preferences to make sure the mic was selected, I tested it to make sure it was sensing my voice, then changed preferences in Premier to make the USB mic the default input. Tried recording again, same result.

I went to the Audio page in Premiere and clicked on the "R" button in Audio Track 1...but it would not highlight. The Audio 1 track is activated. I went to Premiere Preferences/Audio and ensured that the "Mute input during timeline recording" was not checked.

As far as I know, I have done EVERYTHING Adobe recommends to make sure I can record a V/O, but I've had no luck whatsoever, and I have not seen this specific topic covered here or anywhere else for that matter. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

Making a screen-grab of your Audio Hardware preferences dialog and drag/dropping that onto your reply would be useful.
