DHTML Expanding text not working in Firefox

New Here ,
Jun 09, 2009 Jun 09, 2009

Hi All,

I am working with RoboHelp 7.

I have created DHTML expanding text as follows:

1. Inserted Show Me How graphic.

2. Click graphic and insert DHTML expanding text that includes a caption and a Flash Movie

3. Generate Help

RESULT:

In IE7 - exactly what I wanted, the movie appears next to icon and users can see how a task is done, instead of read through the procedure (or after reading procedure - -these are really complex procedures)

In FireFox (3.06) the expanded text does not appear. Rather, I click the icon and nothing happens.

My guess is that for optimal viewing of FlashHelp in Firefox I need to tell people to make sure they have certain add-ins installed - I don't have a problem with this since most FireFox users will install at least one or two plug-ins.

Do you know if I need to have some additional code in my topic for this to work in Firefox, or if there is a plug-in that will make it work?

Thanks!

Dvora

Hi there

Aside from the Flash Player to my knowledge there should be nothing more needed for things to work.

I just tested using RoboHelp 7 and FireFox and it works fine on my own PC here. I'm using FireFox version 3.0.11. I did try checking for updates in FF and it tells me there are none available.

What version of Captivate is being used to create the videos you are inserting?

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,

I am not using Captivate. I'm using DemoBuilder v7.02.

Attached is a sample file that I use.

I've checked my Firefox settings... Java and Flash are both enabled.

But repeated testing: All OK in IE7, but not in Firefox.

Any ideas you can give me would be great.

Thanks

Deborah

Hi again

Unfortunately the file is still in a queued status and as such, is unreachable for testing.

If you like, send it to my private E-Mail at rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com. I'll be happy to test it on my own PC.

Cheers... Rick

I am seeing a similar problem.

I am evaluating RoboHelp 8 because we're considering upgrading from X5. In X5, our expanding text and drop-down text are working for all our supported browsers (IE 7 and 8 on Windows, Safari 2.x and higher on Windows and Mac, and Firefox).

The expanding text and drop-down text, most of which was set up originally in X5, works just fine in Safari (both Mac and Windows) and IE (Windows) in the RoboHelp 8 WebHelp output from the trial version. However, I'm running into some problems in Firefox 3.0.11, which is the only version I've tested so far.

In Windows Firefox, neither expanding text nor drop-down text will work, regardless of whether I created it in RoboHelp X5 or RoboHelp 8.

In Mac Firefox, expanding text works, and most drop-down text works, but drop-down text with a numbered list does not work.

I was using Peter Grainge's method to create twisties for my drop-down text (not necessary now in RoboHelp 8 where you can do this in a character style), and I'm wondering if some of my manual coding may be conflicting with the new code. However, even a drop-down text link created in RoboHelp 8 is not working for me in Windows. When I click one of the expanding text links or drop-down links in Firefox Windows, I see the error "TextPopup is not defined" for the line javascript:TextPopup(this).

Any ideas? Anything we could do to fix this if we do indeed upgrade to RoboHelp 8? There are other reasons why we'd really like to, but this has us concerned.

I apologize. I posted this in the wrong forum. I found this topic in the search results and thought I was still in the WebHelp forum. I will start a new thread there.
