I am paying for a yearly subscription on a month to month basis. I wanted to cancel as I finanacially can no longer afford the $30/month. However it says if I cancel now I'll be charged a cancellation fee.
Instead, I want to cancel the subscription so it does not renew at the end of the my year but I can not find where to do so nor where to see how many months are left in my yearly subscription.
ps. (backstory and rant) I was not aware I would be locked into a year contract. If I had known, I would not have agreed to change to this plan. I signed up for this plan because it was an offer to keep me from cancelling before. I couldn't afford the $60 but could do the $30. With the world the way it is, my circumstances grew worse and I no longer need the app for school but am locked in anyways. One way or another I will be leaving and I will not be back. Also, I will be warning people to use other software that is not so harsh.

you need to cancel at the end of your subscription. adobe doesn't make it easy (or even possible) to enter the data needed schedule cancellation on your last day.
you have to remember. ie, set a reminder on your phone and/or elsewhere to cancel on your last day or a day or two preceeding. then
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/return-cancel-or-change-order.html
take screenshots to document the cancellation and the date.
if you have any trouble canceling yourself use a browser that allows popups and cookies and contact adobe support by clicking here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human
p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative. ie, double check for an employee badge if contacted in the forums and look for an adobe.com domain in the email address if you click reply to an email. then check again and be very suspicious. any other method of contacting (or offering to contact you) is almost certainly a scam, https://community.adobe.com/t5/using-the-community-discussions/staying-safe-in-the-adobe-support-com....
p.p.s you can also use phone (but chat is usually quicker), https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html
p.p.p.s. you can also use twitter to tweet @AdobeCare.
p.p.p.p.s. make and keep a record of your cancellation in case of disputes.

The cancellation fee is half of the remaining due.
You can see when your contract renews by going to https://account.adobe.com/plans. You will see there what plans you have and when they end.
Contact Adobe customer care and try to negotiate your way out of the contract. Adobe customer care can be contacted by beginning a secure chat session at https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen. Pop-up blockers need to be disabled! If the chat window fails to open, or is non-responsive, use a different device to start the interaction.
Support phone numbers may be found here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html. Please note that phone charges may apply.

Adobe offers a costlier month-to-month option on some plans. The monthly price is 40% higher but you can cancel anytime you want, no fees.

Thank you for everybody replying here, now I also know better, I'm about to do the same thing soon. It would be very natural from the customer point of view to have an option to "finish the current yearly subscription on time so that the new yearly subscription won't start". But not having such option -- I don't know, is it really so difficult to add or what.
Nevertheless, it is nice that Adobe offers different subscription options so that people can choose what's best for them.
