Does anybody know how to re enable a 3rd party authenticator app?
Why did Adobe disabled it?

adobe authenticator won't work with another authenticator. that said, i don't know what authenticator you were using or what changed, but you can learn more here, Use Adobe Authenticator for two-step verification

Btw, it's saying right here that we can use a third party 2FA app:

using a browser that allows popups and cookies, contact adobe support by clicking here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human

That's just stupid. So before I had one safe 2FA app for all my services protected with 2FA, but now I need to install one special app for adobe? What were you thinking adobe?

I know, and it's sad. There's no way to let them know that removing third party 2fa apps wasn't a great idea...

I know this thread is old, but there is a request for 3rd party auth apps in the Feature Requests -- if anyone else wants to upvote it
