somehow money has been taken out of my account even though the card details yous have on file is actually cancelled ? 
so how has money been taken out from a card that doesn't work ?

If yiu get a new card, the bank may automatically transfer payments from the old card to the new card. This is to save you from failed payments that may cause issues. Ask your bank if this happened.

 

Note: it is a very bad plan to try to stop paying a subscription by cancelling a card. It can mean you owe more and more each month, and the debt could be sold to a recovery agency, costing much more. To cancel a plan, actually cancel it with Adobe and pay the cancellation fee.
