segregation is a new democracy
Good afternoon! Today I read the news in your corporate blog and I want to ask some clarifying questions.
You write that you don't want your programs to be used by Russian media and government, but what should we, ordinary students, designers and illustrators do with that? Correct me if i understood something wrong: it is your understanding of democracy - to deprive everyone’s access to licensed programs, even those who is far-far away from the government, Russian army and the whole military conflict in Ukraine? Correct me again: your understanding of democracy is a sudden restriction of the right to use a product on a national basis (as it was in Germany for Jews at the beginning of the 20th century, and in the United States during segregation of African Americans)? Do I understand correctly that just the fact that I’m Russian automatically makes me a second-class person not worthy to pay for your subscriptions and use your services?
I am writing from my personal account (not from my work account) so you can block me if you really think that segregation based on nationality is democracy.
Me and my team were your clients for many years. Now we are doing a kids project about environmental protection and conscious consumption. And I want to know Adobe's position: does teaching children the basics of an eco-friendly lifestyle and time management is adding aggression against Ukraine? Does teaching students the basics of design and illustration somehow can help in military operations?
If you think that blocking access to professional and educational tools for ordinary students or designers and illustrators (and restricting their right to study and work) only on their national basis - because they are unlucky to be Russians - is your support of democracy and saving the world from very-very-very evil Russian artists who are peacefully doing their work, then, please, let me know. Because until this moment I sincerely believed that segregation for the United States and nazism for Europe were remnants of the past. And I believed also that civilized companies will never return to this.
P.S. If now we need to show you our nationality or skin color to get access to the software, then I hasten to inform you that I am Jewish, have Russian citizenship and half of my family come from Ukraine and Belarus. Do I need to report my sexual orientation too or am I segregated only by one of the indicated signs?
Thank you for your consideration,
V,
Segregated Russian designer
