Subscription... Family options

New Here ,
Dec 17, 2019 Dec 17, 2019

Hey,

I have used PS and the various photo editing software for years.   My son is now getting to the age where he woud like to tinker in the App so that he can learn it and use some of the benefits for school.

Why does Adobe not offer a "Family" subscription option to support kids downloading and learning the applications for school and for future use.  It would be great that while they are living at home that they should be able to get the software.

The student rate is the best deal around.  60% off for the first year and 40% off thereafter until s/he graduates or cancels.  Creative Cloud apps may be installed on up to 2 machines at a time (home/school or laptop/desktop).  Some restrictions apply.  See below for details.

Another option to consider is buying Photoshop Elements (no annual subscription required).  Compared to Photoshop, PSE is a light version with fewer bells & whistles but the learning curve is not nearly as steep.  This might be a better starting point for beginners.

As a father of four these options suck.  So I have to buy an individual student license for each kid?  How do I even do that for grade school or middle school kids.  Furthermore, has then been a lot of graft on apple's icloud family share?  You would think that you would want me to have my kids use this then a cheaper alternative.  It doesn't make sense not to have a family plan with software this expensive.  I can buy it for myself and my kids I guess they will learn on another free product.

How do I even do that for grade school or middle school kids?

You don't.  Grade school kids don't need professional tools.  Let them use consumer grade apps until they're old enough to know the difference.  😉

I was well into in my 30s before I could afford pro-level tools. Before that, I was content to use free and low-cost alternatives.

If you're looking for affordable graphics or video options, consider purchasing Elements.  Elements is more than adequate for non-pro-level users and the learning curve is a lot less steep.

Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements (single purchase, no subscription needed).

Optionally, you can get your 13+ year old kids a free Adobe Express plan. If they like it, you can upgrade later to a Premium plan for only $10/month.

Student Creative Cloud Plans are aimed at more advanced high school & college aged students who are actively pursuing a path in graphics design.  Different tools for different types of users.

Hope that helps.
