Acrobat 23.3.204244.0 causes GetPackageFamilyName error on Windows 7

The latest version of Acrobat Pro, updated 3rd July 2023, causes Windows 7 error:

ADNotificationManager.exe - Entry Point Not Found

"The procedure entry point GetPackageFamilyName could not be located in KERNEL32.DLL"

Alright, I know Windows 7 is not supported, but was it really necessary for this tiresome Notification Manager (which I'm not interested in) to cause this error every time one downloads a PDF from a web site? Surely it could just have tested for Win7 and avoided making this call?

What was alarming to me is that the error occurs when downloading a PDF file, not when opening it.  So Adobe Acrobat must have some process running in the background that scans for new PDF files.  As far as I can tell, that's done by AdobeCollabSync.exe; killing that process made the errors go away.  Also see https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/permanently-disable-adobe-collab-sync/td-p/11733706 for disabling it.

Just search for file "ADNotificationManager.exe" and rename it to "ADNotificationManager.exe_". It should be located in \Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader

Thanks. That seems to work. Pity Adobe couldn't tell me this when I raised this matter in 2023.

Hi @PeterFacey

Thanks for reaching out.

The version mentioned above is the latest patch for Acrobat. Windows-7 is an outdated OS, and most of the latest applications have not been tested on it. Hence, they are not compatible with Win-7.

As per the system requirement of Acrobat Pro 64-bit, the minimum requirement to run the application is Windows 10

Please update your OS, to get the Acrobat and other Adobe applications fully functional.

Thanks,

Akancha

As I clearly said in the OP, I am aware Windows 7 isn't supported by Adobe. I am not going to upgrade to windows 10 because that would take a fortnight's solid work sitting in front of my PC: that is the effort required to perform a clean install of any new version of windows and all my applications.

I repeat: I can see no good reason why this tiresome Notfication Manager could not have tested for win7 and avoided making this GetPackageFamilyName call. Everything else in Acrobat works perfectly well on win7.

Totally agree. I started experiencing the same issue today.
