Acrobat pro want launch after Win 11 24H2 update

Explorer ,
Oct 02, 2024 Oct 02, 2024

My Acrobat Pro won't launch after I installed the Win11 24H2 update.
Acrobat distiller works as does LR & PS.
When acrobat is started no window opens but it can be seen in the task manager.
I have uninstalled via Creative Cloud but now I can't re-install as it gets stuck at 30%.

Anyone else having this problem after updating to Win11 24H2 (full official release, not the pre-release version)

Hi @Jacopo Bellini.,

We are closely working with Microsoft on this.

Meanwhile you can try running the app in compatibility mode.

To do so, right-click the Acrobat app icon-> properties-> Compatibility-> check the checkbox saying, "Run the app in compatibility mode"-> select Windows 8-> Apply-> OK.

Out of interest, how many only have FileOpen to access standards ie from BSI?

I've been arguing with BSI for over a year that their DRM is overally restrictive and if an employee leaves the business loses access to that document. I expected an Amazon approach where the document could be shared with access transferred so only one copy could be viewed at a time.

Not business friendly

We use various ASME and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and all are protected with FileOpen. The annoying part of file open is that if you loose access to the file for some reason or another you have to fully redownload the file from the site you purchased it from.

Yeah I've always found DRM to be a self-sabotaging concept. Give people who pay for legitimate access to digital goods restricted and compromised use of the product they purchase, while pirates enjoy unlimited freedom. DRM generally does nothing to prevent piracy anyway.

@Jacopo Bellini @steven_0835,

Sorry for the experience.

We are working on this, and a fix should be available with the upcoming update.

Today I received an update for Adobe Acrobat and, in the hope for the bugfix, I installed it right away.

Unfortunately, things have gotten even worse. The workaround with the compatibility mode no longer works either. A white window opens, only to terminate after one moment.

Compatibili8ty mode is a joke. It will not let me disable the new toolbar layout and I get the tour everytime I load it.

@LaBodilsen, that's great!

While this is a temporary workaround, we are working to get this fixed at the earliest.

I uninstalled, re-intalled 3 times. Ran microsoft and they told me it was a corrupt profile so i made a new profile and still the same.

Since finding this forum I have now run acrobat in compatability mode for windows 8 and it seems to be working until there is a fix come through.

I have spent approx 3-4 hours researching and trying different options. Hopefully an update will push through shortly.

The best and most secure work around is to uninstall fileopen and request a non-drm version of the documents.

All other solutions weaken your IT systems security which Adobe worked hard on.

I'm experiencing the same issue.  Changing to Windows 8 compatibility mode allows me to start Acrobat, however it runs really slow and some of the functionality is gone ( e-signatures, sync to cloud etc.)

Chased this issue for quite a while - went through uninstall (with Revo) / reinstall, setting Compatibility Mode, unchecking Preferences > Security (Enhanced) > Enable Protected Mode at startup, nothing, kept dying as soon as it signed in  ... and then when I rechecked Enable Protected Mode at startup, it challenged me saying I was signed in on 3 machines (over the limit of 2). The other two instances were really old and old sign-ins with my Windows 11 machine name. The new instance didn't contain my Windows 11 machine name (hmmmm, 24H2 change?). Killed the other two instances, fired right up and stayed up - no Compatibilty mode, Enable Protected Mode checked. It looks like it's not recognizing that the sign in is really coming from the same machine, creates a new one instead, put me over the limit and silently signs me out. I had also gone into my Adobe Account and done the "sign out all" thing and signed back into Adobe CC, and that didn't solve it - it was specific to how many sign ins Acrobat thought it had.

The problem happens when combining Adobe Reader and FileOpen. You only need FileOpen if you have to read FileOpen protected documents, otherwise you can uninstall FileOpen and Adobe Reader should work fine. What worked for me is this: I contacted the document vendor (in my case, CIE) and complained in no uncertain words about their failure to provide the documents I bought for quite some money in a way that I can actually read them. I requested to get the documents in a non-FileOpen protected version, with e.g. watermark, labeled with my name and affiliation and date, in a pdf format that disallows editing with pdf standard compliant pdf editors like Adobe Acrobat, PDFXEdit and others. They were actually quite nice and provided this service. Maybe if many standard organizations are flooded with requests like this, they would just get rid of FileOpen protection and protect their documents with watermarks etc. Sorry, FileOpen guys.
