Since about a month my, and my colleges Acrobat Pro (64-bit) version keeps crashing/hanging for some reason. The program is up to date. Last week I found a another new update, but it still very unresponsive. 😞
Is there an easy fix or do we need to go back and install and old version?
Thanks.
Just "Disable new Acrobat Reader" under the file menu and let me know if that work.
I refered to the solution of removing the Acrobat registry, it solved. Removing Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC.
Thanks a lot!
I've tried to check on the Creative cloud desktop but it didn't show any updates. I manually download the update. Now the version is 23.008.20555. The update is optional update. I will see if it can slove the issue.
Hi there
The 64-bit application is a unified application for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. If you have installed Acrobat Reader 64-bit and you purchase an Acrobat subscription, the Acrobat Reader 64-bit application will upgrade to become a fully functional Acrobat 64-bit application.
For more info. please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/about-acrobat-reader-dc-migration-to-64-bit.html

since last december acrobat doesnt work anymore with files more than 10 pages. acrobat cant handle a file with 30 pages and 5 mb and crashes everytime i open it.
just had a phone call with adobe support - they have no idea after 6 month what is causing the problem. they connected me to a acrobat specialist and after he couldnt hear me, he hung up ... no call back ... what a poor service. i am gone in july and wont come back ever - adobe doesnt care about his customers ...

Hi there
What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 24.02.20759 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.
Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.
Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

After beingan Acrobat user for over 7 years, I've decided to cancel my subscription.
I don't feel that I should need to be an IT expert to get a software programme to run as it should. It worked fine for 7 years and now suddenly it is completley broken. Today, after trying to open a file containing PDF architectural drawings the programme crashed and I've not been able to restore it. I have subcribed to Readdle PDF Editor and within minutes its working very satisfactorily.

I dont know if any of the users use PlateBuilder Plug in from Kodak, but if you do please advise when that works correctly. The previous update failed and I feel like these updates are all trial and error since January. By the way I have a new user account is there a tip how I can connect this string to my other account?

Since I installed an optional update, the acrobat cannot update successfully any more. Everytime it tried to update automatically, it alerted that update failed.

I have the same, Issue, 24.001.20643 now with this version, adobe is not working properly, I rollback to the previous version to test, I hope that works, because I have many users with this issue, and I lost my time trying to resolve the Adobe bugs.

Thanks to this thread, I think I finally solved this same problem I've been having for the last several months. I found it was primarily when opening PDFs created from CAD drawings, which would cause Acrobat Pro to freeze/hang/crash on my desktop. The irony was I never had this problem on my laptop running the exact same version of Acrobat Pro. I think I finally solved the problem based on comments provided in this thread. I also was running Acrobat Reader on my desktop but not my laptop. When I read that running both Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader on the same machine was possibly causing the problem, I uninstalled Acrobat Reader on my desktop and now Acrobat Pro seems to be working fine!!

Update on my last comment. It looks like I'm still having the problem with large PDFs created from CAD drawings. The smaller PDFs seem to be working pretty good but I just tried opening one that had 20 pages in it and it did the same freeze/hang/crash issue that I was having earlier.

My latest update is that the problem still exists (more commonly with larger files but sometimes randomly with single page files as well), but seems to be a little less prevalant as it was before I removed Acrobat Reader. Again, I am experiencing the problem primarily from PDFs created from CAD drawings. I have Acrobat Pro 32-bit version installed on my computer.

Update: it seems to be back to the freeze/hang/crash issue almost all the time again., no matter the file size (for PDFs created from CAD drawings). The fix I thought I had found (above) only seemed to kind of work for a week or two and gradually it now appears to be wholly back to the same problem. So, unfortunately, it appears I didn't find the fix.

2024-06-15 09.06 (utc+1): i just tested the new version - no change, acrobat still crashes ...
but no worries for me anymore. because adobe 's new terms of use, where they can plunder all our content and use it for there ai, i am going to leave adobe at the end of june anyway (and for good).
my yearly plan expires in the middle of july. because adobe is such a bad company, i cant even use my paid plan until it expires ... it says all about them.
the change will suck - i have used adobe product since my studies - 20 years plus and gave them a lot of money, but enough is enough.
i just bought the affinity suite - it is 50 % off at the moment. time will tell, how the new owner of affinity (canvas) will keep their promeses to provide a perpetual licsense. if not, i will change again ...
so all the best to you adobe, happy screwing your customers with bad products and no real support ....
